A complete meal for one that contains 800 cals! Luckily for me I didn’t read the calorie content until I had finished eating, or I probably would have had a heart attack.

So we have concluded that this product will not be recommended for any of you out there on a diet, but for those that aren’t (or decide that just once wont hurt), then read on and I will tell you all about this little delight I found in the supermarket.

Tandoori Chicken biryani, made by Birds Eye, in their new “Enjoy” range. Can be cooked from frozen in ten minutes apparently (only if you want cold chicken).

I have been tempted by the Enjoy range before, but upon reading all the ingredients to check out any nasty sultanas that may be lurking amongst everything else, I always find coconut, and that’s something else I can’t stand. So when I read the ingredients for the tandoori chicken I was pleasantly surprised to find no coconut.

Considering it was only 1.99 I decided to try it because if you don’t try something new you will never know if you like it.

Being a Saturday when I shop, I always cook something quick for tea on a Saturday night. (I’m just lazy). So I decided to try my biryani.

*****HOW TO COOK*****

Well according to the packet, you just add 1tbsp oil to a pan and add ingredients and stir occasionally for ten minutes until the sauce absorbs the rice.

****HOW I COOKED IT****

I added a bit more than 1tbsp oil because my rice kept sticking to the pan. The sauce was in frozen chunks and seemed to take ages to thaw, but when it did the pan started looking lovely.
I also stirred near enough constantly, to ensure the pan was not too burnt at the end.

*******INGREDIENTS*****

I am not going to mention all ingredients, as there are too many, but the main ones being:

- rice
- chicken
- chopped tomato
- spring onion

There were also lots of spices etc.

****FIRST IMPRESSIONS******

The smell is gorgeous, but the meal itself looks like lots of ingredients mashed together. My other half said it smelt nice but he wouldn’t try it.
The taste isn’t too harsh. I’m not one for extremely spicy meals (a tikka masala is about my limit), but whilst I needed a drink nearby, I coped very well. My mouth certainly wasn’t on fire at the end of it.

*****PACKAGING*****

The meal itself comes in quite a classy foil bag, in the shades of orange and purple. (Sounds disgusting doesn’t it, but it goes surprisingly well).
The bag ensures not too much waste, which is always a plus.

*****PLUS POINTS*****

- Tasty meal
- Generous serving
- No peppers/coconut/sultanas

******MINUS POINTS******

- high calorie content
- can stick to the pan (maybe that’s my cooking)
- needs more than 10 mins to cook in my opinion (I don’t want to eat cold chicken).I do recommend this product because the price is about average for a brand named ready meal. I found the serving too generous for little old me, so if you’ve got small appetites then it’s maybe one to share, and add naan bread or something to make the meal, or you could even add a bit more rice if you were so inclined. That makes the meal even cheaper.

Like I said, try it, because you never know you might like it.

Does "not too burnt" mean the pan was actually a bit burnt in the end i.e. scouring job? I'm not sure I'd want to try this if it makes a mess.
