I buy birds eye potato waffles as an alternative accompaniment to my meat and veg - a useful option to have. Potato waffles are potato lattices made with mashed potato, but have the crispiness that you find in chips.
You can buy a box of 12 waffles for around £1 in most supermarkets and these can be stored easily in your freezer. They come in a bright red box, with a picture of the waffles on. The waffles can be grilled (for around 8 minutes) or cooked in the oven (for around 15 minutes). I find that the waffles crisp up more when cooked in the oven, and find them perhaps a little too dry. I prefer to grill as they taste more of the potato.
Waffles are a good alternative to chips as they are low in saturated fats and contain no artificial colours or preservatives so are good for the kids too!
These are really simple to cook and are a very convenient part of a meal - quick and easy when you are in a rush. They are also very tasty too, and filling.
