Advantages Simple and Yummy

Disadvantages High Fat.

I’m a huge fan of cooking but sometimes it’s nice to grab something easy to pop in the oven. You can just take it out of its packaging, there’s no peeling, chopping or cleaning involved.

I came across in my local ASDA, in its eye catching box, Birds Eye Chicken Chargrills topped with Reggae Reggae Sauce made by Levi Roots; I’ve tried the other chargrills and really enjoyed them so I thought lets give these ago!

Levi Roots is a name some people may know, Levi went onto a television program called Dragon’s Den to advertise his sauces (reggae reggae being one of them). The Dragons liked his idea and you can now buy his sauces in a wide range of shops!

To prepare:
Place your reggae reggae chicken onto a baking tray pop into a preheated oven 190c, fan assisted ovens 170c for 20 minutes, and make sure you cook it glazed size up.

My thoughts:
I have to say I was very pleased with the overall taste and texture. I sometimes find when you buy foods like this it’s very rubbery and tastes of nothing. This, however, was sweet with a light spice which my taste buds really did enjoy; the chicken melted in my mouth no rubbery texture at all.

I always look out for foods that have no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives and this one ticks all the boxes. Also being made from 100% chicken, there farms are regularly monitored by veterinary groups to ensure high standards of animal welfare (I know we’re just going to eat them anyway, but nice to see they have been treated right).

Right now in ASDA it cost £1.00 for a box containing two chicken breasts, and for what you get this is excellent value. The meat is of good size and the sauce is even and well-coated.

As I mentioned it’s made from 100% chicken but from reading the ingredients it tells you that it’s actually 74% so I read on and found this by Birds Eye which cleared it up for me:

“Why does it say 100% chicken breast if it’s made with 74% chicken breast? 100% chicken breast means we use only chicken breast meat in our range. The other 26% relates to the other tasty ingredients such as the coating”

Ingredients:

Chicken Breast (74%), Marinade, Glaze, Vegetable Oil.

Marinade

Water, Wheat Flour, Wheat Starch, Maize Starch, Rice Flour, Salt.

Glaze

Water, Vegetable Oil, Fructose, Malt Vinegar Extract (contains Barley), Sugar, Dried Onion, Tomato Powder, Natural Colour (Plain Caramel), Garlic Powder, Natural Flavourings, Cornflour, Black Pepper, Ground Scotch Bonnet Chilli,Cinnamon, Salt, Yeast Extract, Natural Emulsifier (Soya Lecithin#), Demerara Sugar, Parsley, Ginger Extract, Cayenne Pepper Extract, Pimento Extract, Clove Extract, Milk Protein.

Allergens
Contains Wheat, Barley, Milk, Soya.

Nutritional information (per serving)

2.3g Sugars
9.4g Fat
2.7g Saturates
0.8g Salt

Although for one chicken it sure does have a high amount of fat, having this as a tasty treat now and then would be fine. I love mine served on pita bread with salad inside, or if I’m feeling cheeky have them with McCain’s smiley faces and salad!

I would recommend to all the chicken lovers out there, it was gorgeous!
