I love the internet and feel totally disconnected without it so I knew that my next phone even though I'm not a business person would be a blackberry. As I am on Three I had little choice which in Blackberry- in fact the Bold was the only choice but after reading numerous reviews I felt that was probably the best option anyway as I don't like touch touchscreen phones so the storm would annoy me and the curve has ever so slightly slower internet.
So the phone! Well visually it does look great. Both business like but also attractive with nice curves and a glossy very good quality screen. My husband also agrees that the leather back cover is a particulary smooth feature in the design. The trackerball which glows white is easy to use and I think looks nicer lit up than the curve's which is not. Yes it is a bit bigger than the Curve but I still think it is better looking.
So how easy is it work? Well I have never used a Blackberry before and I must admit it took me a couple of days to get my head around it, that and some help off internet forums as it does not really come with a decent instruction manual, which considering it is so complex is a bit of shame, but I guess those geeks at Blackberry presume you will use the Blackberry website for any exta info neededed.
Now for anyone who simply thinks this is just a phone they are wrong. This is more like a computer with a phone. It is very easy to set up your email although I must admit to having problems less than 24 hours later when it appeared to stop but I got that all sorted out. It also comes with software so that you can sync your pc with your blackberry, transfer files to and from, add and delete applications and resore and backup.
So what do you get on the phone? Well the phone comes with all the usuals plus a few extras like stocks checker, weather checker, Yahoo & MSN messenger, Blackberry messenger which is great for sending free messages to other BB users. Plus a fab little piece of software that means you can actually download your itunes library onto your Bold- fab! Another feature included is the GPS maps which admittedly I haven't tried hard at using but so far it's safe to say I wont be giving up my beloved tomtom anytime soon! One of the other reasons I love my BB though is for the free apps that can be downloaded simialr to the iphone I believe. In particular I like the uber twitter app which makes for easy twitting and the facebook one as well. There are a lot of good free apps available although a lot you have to pay for.
Work type functions include Word to go, spreadsheets to go and a slideshow type application. There is also a memopad, video recorder, camera and taske sheet as well as a calender.
The battery life is dependent really on what you are doing. Ie if you keep your apps going in the background ready to alert you the minute someone sends you a new tweet for instance it will drain the battery rather. However considering all that this phone does I really can't complain as my old Nokia 6500 slide battery was rubbish and that did nowhere near what this can do.
So overall my opinion is that this is a cracking phone for anyone who needs access to their emails or the internet. Yes it is a little complicated but that is because it is a complex bit of kit but it is well worth making the effort with!
Advantages: Easy to use, pleasent to look at, good battery life, big memory, good camera, easily customisable. Disadvantages: May not be for those who prefer a smaller phone.
Advantages: mobile e-mail, excellent mobile phone, SMS/MMS, camera, web browsing Disadvantages: synchronisation issues, inbox/calendar/contact updates are not transferred
