In the game Black and White, you are God. From the word go, you have to decide which way you want to orientate yourself, good (white) or evil (black). Not only does this give you a feeling of immense power and control, it also allows you to create and develop of a creature of your own choice. The creature has probably the best AI development that I have ever seen in a computer game. He has the ability to everything that you do and learns from your actions in accordance with your instruction.
Ultimately, the aim of the game is to defeat the evil God, Nemesis. In order to do this, you need to gain belief throughout the various stunning lands. By casting miracles on your worshippers, you gain their devotion and prayer power, essential if you are to convert more people. However, the power comes at a price.
It is incredibly difficult to remain a good God. In order to do this, you need to keep your worshipper’s desires down and you can end up frustratingly with the rotating “pleasing factor”. Your worshippers always have a desire and the games only downside is the tediousness of satisfying them. It is impossible to satisfy your existing land and take over more and is disappointing that the creators of the game have not introduced some more “self-management” of people.
However, both the tutorials from your two “demons” and the multiplayer side to the game are stunning, as is the graphic detail which is unsurpassed.
In conclusion, I would recommend this game to anyone who had some time to spare. Although I do not, I found myself making time because of the sheer addictiveness of the game. Considering that I bought the game off Ebay for just £5, I would say that this was my best computer game buy ever.
