Let's suppose you are a poet or a song writer and you need a rhyme. Rather than beating your brains out for hours on end wasting paper, what you need is a copy of what is probably the world's best English language rhymingdictionary, the Oxford Dictionary of Rhymes. Actually, it is not just a English language rhyming language dictionary, as well as proper names and pace names, it contains foreign teems, too.

Advantages: Covers most of the theories and terms used in general psychology; easy to use Disadvantages: Once you want specific areas (eg. educational psychology) there may not be entries
Andrew Colman is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Leicester, and has been heavily involved in psychological research. His dictionary is more than 800 pages long, and according to the back of the book covers 'cognition, sensation and perception, emotion and motivation, learning and skills, language, mental disorder, and research methods'.
I used this as a bible throughout my undergraduate degree and never in the three years found a term that was not covered. I have since begun looking into a doctoral in educational psychology and have found that a few (but not many) of the terms I have wanted have not been covered.
The definitions I found to be succinct but useful, and several are illustrated with accompanying diagrams which helped to clarify things for me.
