The Blackberry device has become synonimous with business men, everywhere you go there they are whipping it out of the belt clip case and pretending they are on an important business call or checking their emails. Truth be told they probably are, because the games are lacking on the Blackberry, this is a business tool and it really does shine in that area.
As an email tool this really is an excellent device, you can connect to your client and have emails on the go, whenever, wherever and it works very, very well. The keyboard is a little small, but with the space they have you can certainly get a technique going where you can tap out a quick reply to customers or clients with little or no error. The display is crisp and clear for this puepose and you can also view attachments in the form of images, pfds and documents.
As a phone, which fundimentally is what this is, it lacks a little. The size is a little on the big side and the design doesn't really fit your head very well. You'll find yourself contasntly adjusting the position and volume throughout a call to try and make aure you can hear them, and that they can hear you. It certainly works, but it isn't the best functionality of the device.
You also have a calculator, diary, calendar, appointment book and a whole variety of other programs to help you keep to your schedule and make your meetings. It of course lets you send SMS and MMS messages as well to make sure you can text your buddies. Extra programs can be downloaded to the device and more games and featues installed. Bear in mind, that unlike other smart phones the Blackberry is not touch screen, so all actions are performed through a little ball in the middle just under the display. This is quite easy to use and spin across the options, of course this also prevents accidental selection of options when handling the phone. The extra programs are very easy to use, calculator is self explanatory, the calendar allows you to place appointments and alerts with ease using the keypad to enter in any desired text. The tones and alerts are polyphonic or mp3 depending on which you prefer, so it is quite customizable, you can also download new backgrounds or use one of your own images/photos to decorate behind your icons.
Items such as the alarm and media player (which allows music and videos) are again all accessed through the 360 degree middle ball. The system is very intuitive and easy to use in this respect, much like a mouse on a computer. The placement of the controls and keypad means that when you are holding the 8800 and scrolling through websites or appointments your hand never blocks the screen and allows you full view of what you are doing. All the key 'click' nicely and the ball acts as an extra button when you press it down to Enter or Accept your current option.
The internet feature of the device is good, but not great. It uses it's own browser, which is not full internet, but more internet light. You can pretty much access any site you desire (except Flash) but some of the pages will display a little strangely if they are not mobile designed. You might find yourself scrolling through difficult sections for websites with frames for example. That said, it works, and it will help you out for all of your internet needs.
It's a very good device, it has a lot of features and a lot of power behind it. The feel is good and the look is good, the actual display is very clear and crisp and you'll find yourself protecting it's shiny exterior from harm.
Great work, a wonderful and helpful business tool, but not much cop as an actual phone.
How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
Good review, but I felt like you rather only listed the features and didnt say much about them or your experience. For a person like m, who has never held a Blackberry device, this was not very helpful, because I donno if/how different this device is from other smartphones. If you upgrade your review, let me know and I'll read it again. Radka
