Advantages: Clear verbal instructions, very easy to use,dashboard intergrated makes it less "nickable" and a detachable facia, can do miles or KM Disadvantages: Does not give you idea of where you are, eg if your near points of interest, cant review whole route, so you cant check it out on a map
I bought this system with a 5 disc cd system, the whole lot came in at a whopping £600. However, that aside, it was fantastic, we did a 3500 mile trip around France, Spain, Italy, switzerland and UK in 3 weeks. HELGA as we called our travelpilot, did not let us down once. Your can enter a postcode of anywhere in europe and she takes you to the door, you can get her to find you the nearest petrol station, very useful as I have a Total fuel card, she has useful and maybe useless information all embedded on the memory, she tells you about toll roads, speed cameras and with the TMC option - traffic congestion, then she jumps into life and wow finds a way around the lot.
Dare you take the option to not take motorways and she will take you down some of the most picturesque and isolated roads you will ever go down. We thought she had gone ...

*Comes with maps of Western Europe on a DVD ( worth about 60GBP ), you will need an SD card to transfer these to. The satnav can be set to different languages. Updates for the maps are available on the internet.
*The signal is generally good, it takes minute or so to find a satellite once you switch it on. When I first got mine it tended to freeze up sometimes, probably from the heat ... but it works fine now.
*Another thing I like about it is that I can slip it easily into my pocket, it's only about 20mm thick ...

In our brand new Fiesta, delivered this month, the BlaupunktTravelPilot comes fitted in a unit combined with the radio.
To try this system out, over a period of three weeks, and a total of about 600 miles, entirely within my home county of West Yorkshire, i ran the TravelPilot alongside my own local knowledge of the area built up over 17 years of driving around the area.
To enter a destination it is necessary to go through a menu and a series of entries not wholly unlike entering a text message on a mobile phone. There is a form of predictive texting, which can be quite useful.
The problem I found, though, was that before I could find the way to, say, Huddersfield Police Station I needed to know what road it is in. There seems to be no provision for places like hospitals or police stations as destinations.
