So recently I found myself wanting to write a blog. A place where I could talk about my day to day thoughts as a student and express to the world opinions and see if the stereotypical student image fits with reality.
I tried squidoo orginially (www.squidoo.com). I quite liked the way they had tried to make their page 'fun'. Bright colours and alien images. For each 'lense' (they call blogs lenses) you would gain points. Points were also awarded for liking other peoples contributions. I never got my head around why a blogging site needs to give you points to up your level. Although this may appeal to some, changing the blogging experience into a partial game. Personally... I looked else where.
This is when I came across blogger. My friend (http://allthingscultured.blogspot.co.uk/) already used the site and feels that it works wonders in her favour. Therefore I decided to give it a shot.
It was easy to set up! Especially since I already use google for my email account. I simply logged in with that and began. Knowing that it is opperated by google also pleased me. I am one of those who finds google reliable and find myself a large fan of their scope.
Anyway, you get to chose your own domain name and focus the blog on anything which you wish. This was ideal for myself as I no longer wished to focus on reviewing items, although I shall be doing that still occassionally.
The statistics page is amazing! You can see whereabout in the world people are reading your blogs, which is always interesting. I currently have readers in Ireland, Australia and America. It also tells you what system they use to read it, be that explorer, chrome etc.
So far I have written about myself, about earning money online, what the sun does a student and evita. I am not looking for a large online audience yet there is potential. I think the hardest task is getting people to your blog. Once that is done, you just need to keep on writing!!
So please, check it out should you so wish: http://itsatoughlifeforastudent.blogspot.co.uk/
