Manufacturer's product description
Today, astonishing surgical breakthroughs are making face transplants, limb transplants and a host of other previously undreamed of operations possible. But getting here has not been a simple story of selfless men working tirelessly in the pursuit of medical advancement. Instead it's a bloodstained tale of blunders, arrogance, mishap and murder. In trying to keep us alive, surgeons have all too often killed us off, and life-saving solutions have often come from the most surprising places. Accompanying a BBC series, "Blood and Guts" is an incredible story of stolen corpses, medical fraud, lobotomized patients - and every now and then courageous advances that have saved the lives of millions around the world. You may think twice before going under the knife. See all Product Description
Advantages: The true worth of a spirit. A Triumphant ending. Disadvantages: The Horrors disadvantages and shame of Abuse
...easily into your bag as you travel.
There is a lovely paragraph written by the author at the front and a photograph of Richard as he is now with dark hair and heavy brows with a sort of baby face despite his past. you immediately feel this is an intelligent sensitive and caring person.
The book is not one of those subjects you can happily digest without wondering into another dimension. It gave me goose bumps tears and smiles all at the same time all the way through.
Similar to "A child called It "in experience, descriptive images and background of course,it is nonethe less individualistically apart.
The same graphic language..the same unforgettable unmistakable smells feelings descriptions...the images of horror ible blood draining sickening horror that something with this sort of topic could only conjure : that sears your mind...

Advantages: Excellently conceived and realised alternative history; epic historical scale yet with memorable and very believable characters; good sense of extrapolation. Disadvantages: May be slightly too wordy for the tastes of some readers; title and publisher blurb gives the impression of a horror novel which is false; out of print.
...; ‘Pavane’ assumes that Elizabeth I was assassinated and that the Spanish Armada subsequently conquered England.
As for what, exactly, it is that has been changed in the course of history to lead to the circumstances we find in The Empire of Fear, we do not find out until near the end, and on this occasion I will not put that Spoiler into the review. Needless to say, with a society which includes Vampires, bona fide at least to the point that they drink blood, live essentially forever and cannot feel pain, the historical change is of considerably larger scale and of perhaps more obscurity than those examples named above, but be under no illusions: The Empire of Fear IS a work of science fiction, in which a serious attempt has been made to plausibly explain the alternative history, and indeed the biological changes which have...

...of California, thinking that they're in for a relaxing vacation of hiking through the woods. They then would find themselves shackled to one of the six dead trees in the woods. Waiting for Them to come.
The Dills family are heading up to the mountains for a fun vacation and a family outing. What harm could it do to spend the night in the small little town with a seemingly nice motel? Soon these people would also find themselves shackled to the trees, waiting for Them to come in the dead of night. The Krulls who have a ravenous hunger for human flesh... These six people are gonna have to work together if they want to get out of the woods. Alive.
I really enjoyed this book. Instead of him having the climax dragged out until the end, all of the blood and guts are straight in your face. And believe me, there's pleanty of blood and guts...
