Reliable and well priced 2.0 Blu-Ray Player. Advantages: 2.0 compatible, good looking, easy to use remote, good connectivity for price, excellent price. Disadvantages: No optical sound output, no HDMI or ethernet cables included, need memory stick for 2.0 ...is the cheapest of the Philips range of Blu-Ray players, but it is also BDP 2.0, so you access the latest special features via the internet (as well as update the firmware) through an ethernet cable (remember to buy one). Be aware that you do need to put at least a 1GB memory stick in the back to access these features, as unlike more expensive models it does not have any memory built in. However, if you are like me and are more concerned with the ... ...and are older models, whereas Philips released theirs in May 2009. Whichever Blu-Ray player you do decide to buy, remember to opt for 1.1 or 2.0 and is able to receive firmware updates to ensure it will continue to play blu-ray discs in the coming years. Overall, I am very happy with this player, which looks nice, works well and packs a lot of connectivity considering the price and the competition. The League Of Extraordinary Blu-Ray Advantages: Fantastic picture, sound and at a pretty good price. Disadvantages: Price can vary. You'll never want to leave your sofa and so any work! ...staunch support by Sony and Panasonic amongst others, and boasted about the later updates to its technology available via internet linking, which it claimed would help it stay ahead of the pack in the future. You shouldn't suffer from 'the blues' with this Blu-Ray ! Advantages: Great looking, fantastic picture quality and value for money. Reputable and reliable brand. Disadvantages: The shiny and glossy appearance dust show the dust so get the duster out between films! ...on the market currently. Samsung is a quality brand - well known in the electronics industry for producing televisions and mobile phones among other devices. APPEARANCE -------------------- As we have come to expect from Samsung, the BD-P1600 is black and glossy. This looks fantastic although you'll need to dust it regularly to keep it looking crisp and clean. Just ask the missus to do it - simple! No, I didn't mean that. Tell her to do it. Only ... ...if you prefer, purchase a Samsung usb dongle and connect wirelessly via a wi-fi connection, or upgrade via a disc. You can access the BD Live servce and extra bonuses on certain discs via the internet connection. There are 2 USB slots included with this player which is a brilliant addition believe me. Excellent quality all round Advantages: Great video and audio Disadvantages: The loading time ...all you must realize that sony is the king of the ring when it come to blu-ray player with the ps3 really breaking the blu-ray into mass market. I am pleased to say the there new model lives up to expectation and renews the boundries of video quality. The remote has good functionalities and is easy to use while set up is relatively simple. The video and audio quality is superb and just as goo as any other player on the market.
