The first time I entered a Blubeckers restaurant I thought it would be very like the Harvester or Beefeater restaurants, with the cheap and cheerful food. While the surroundings where similar, although slightly more upmarket, the food was ten times better.
Now I've been quite a few times with my partner, friends and family on various occasions (in fact I'm going again tomorrow night for my brother's birthday) so I will describe a usual evening at this restaurant.
The Blubeckers that I go to is the one at Twyford in Berkshire. There are many others in locations around the UK which I shall tell you about at the end of this review.
After being seated (by the way you generally MUST book) the waiter/waitress comes to the table to take your drinks order. This is the moment when I order a bottle of the Piesporter Michelsberg (my favourite).
After retreiving my wine and any other drinks that were ordered we are asked for our food order (or if we would like more time). Here I usually choose Crispy Potato Skins for starter and Standard Ribs for main course (with chips). Later on I usually choose the Brownies with Baileys cream for dessert. All of these choices are excellent, although they also have many other dishes on offer. I won't go through the whole menu, but some of the options are:-
Selection from the starters: fresh melon, goats cheese tart, garganelli pasta and Blubeckers mussels.
Selection from the main courses: grilled lamb steak, baked fillets of sea bass, Aberdeen Angus steak burger, Mexican chicken fajita, chargrilled chicken & spicy chorizo kebab and Blubeckers chicken caesar salad.
There are also vegetarian options such as: lentil & spinach cottage pie, crispy vegetable fajita, garganelli pasta and roasted red pepper & goats cheese salad.
This restaraunt also comes across as very child friendly. I have never been with a child myself, but from what I have seen it is a great place to take children. They provide high chairs and also have a substantial range of children's meals including:-
Main courses: fish sticks, pasta tubes in Italian tomato sauce and grated cheese, spaghetti bolognaise and home made cottage pie.
Deserts: banana blaster, solar smartie smacker, martian mountain and deep space chocolate dipper.
Blubeckers also have ballons, colouring in with crayons and kiddies competitions.
Overall the atmosphere is that of a family restaurant, although it is slightly more upmarket than other family restaurants that are there for family convenience. This one is here to provide good food in friendly surroundings.
The food portions are very big (I usually share starters and desserts). The prices are a little on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for.
Just to give an idea of prices, here are some ideas:-
Starters: Lowest - £4.50, highest - £10.95 (for a combo to share), average starter price is somewhere around £5.
Main courses: Lowest - £8.95, highest - £16.50, average price is somewhere around £11 to £12.
I can't really remember prices of desserts and they are not on the restaurant's website for some reason, but as far as I can remember, they were perhaps similar prices to the starters.
Advantages: Very child friendly. Cheerful, efficient staff Disadvantages: Not the place for a romantic liason.
Blubeckers are family orientated eating houses rather than pub restaurants. If you have children or arej ust young at heart and live in the South East you should certainly treat tyourself or the family. YOU MUST BOOK FIRST.

... ...happy birthday. It cost Blubeckers very little but it made my nans day.
Children
This is where they really score. Balloons on arrival - they can choose the colour. Crayons and colouring while they wait, prompt arrival of drinks, plenty of good quality, clean high chairs and an outside, enclosed childrens playground.
The childrens menu is very good and can be viewed on their website. It has a Space Adventure theme with jokes, things to do, competitions ...

Advantages: Family atmosphere, good hot food, good friendly service Disadvantages: forgot my partners birthday!
...for main I chose the blubeckers root top fish pie which came with salmon, smoked haddock and prawns, topped with parsnip and carrot mash with fresh veggies. My partner choose the home made soup of the day served with a ciabata roll, which was brocoli and stilton and the grilled lamb steak and rosemary roasted potatoes served with fresh mint, redcurrant sauce and fresh veggies. While we were eating our meal the waitresses and came out with 2 desserts ... ...finished our starters and main meal I started to get a little excited as I know my partner hates being embarassed! But instead he said he was too full for dessert so I spent about 10 minutes trying to persuade him to have one! In the end he gave in to me bugging him and just had ice cream. When the desserts finally came out it didn't have a candle in it and as it was supposed to be a surprise I didn't really want to say anything to anyone. The waitresses ...

Quick review of Blubeckers Restaurant
I have just eaten at Bluebeckers Chobham and regret that I did not have the kind of experience enjoyed by the previous reviewer. the service was slow. There is a difference between letting your food settle between courses and being ignored. The food was decidedly average and certainly not worth the albeit reasonable prices. We certainly will not be going again. I think the main aim is large groups and not people who want to enjoy what they eat. ...

Quick review of Blubeckers Restaurant
We booked at the Hampton Court Bluebeckeres and after being asked if we wanted drinks almost before we sat down (as was everybody else coming in), and saying we weren't ready for drinks, we were then completely ignored for 20 minutes. We had to ask for service, but by the time a waitress did come over, we had had enough and decided to leave. No attempt was made to placate us, in fact the waitress was completely clueless about "customer service". Also, everybody was greeted as "guys" by whoever was in charge that evening. Knew we weren't going to have gourmet food from part of chain, but expected a gread deal better service given the prices. ...

...2 page complaint letter to Blubeckers I was that upset. Ruined fathers day, we had to wait over 75 mins between starters and main even though we had arrived at 12 as requested as another party had our table booked for 2pm. They had packed the restaurant to the rafters which had stretched the kitchen and the waiting staff to the brink. More concerned about getting people in to fill their coffers than actually considering service and food quality. ...
