It's that time of year again - fleas, bugs, ticks and the like. I've noticed my dog, Ollie, scratching quite a lot lately. (And now me after watching 'Aracnaphobia' on telly last night!). I've even managed to pick a couple of flea's off the poor dog and squash them! Urgh!
So, on a recent trip to Tesco's, I bought a couple of Bob Martin products - the 'flea and tick spot on' and some spray for the home. I was dertermined to the kill those wretched flea's if it killed me!
I paid £2.98 for 3 very small tubes, which will last you around 3 months. The packaging is red on top, and yellow on the bottom. The partiular one I bought is for small dogs and puppies. There is a lovely little pooch on the front of a Jack Russell, very similar to Ollie, although he's a smooth coat!
On the back is all the information you will need to know about this product and how to use it. There are also the ingredients and contact information.
It states on the back that:- ~ Each treatment kills fleas and ticks on contact for up to 4 weeks. ~ Breaks the flea lifecycle. ~ For dogs and puppies from 2 weeks and up to 15kg. ~ Kills 98% of fleas in 24 hours.
It also tells you that it should be used as part of an effective flea control programme. The fleas's will infest your pet's basket and bedding - including your bed if that's where he/she sleeps! Make sure you de-flea these areas as well with a flea spray (which I also bought today). Honestly, he's costing me a goddamn fortune that mutt! It also suggest using a flea comb on your pet.
On opening the packet you will se on the left are 2 tubes of the flea repellant. The tubes are about 1mm. On the right hand side it will tell you how often to use each tube. After tube 1 use the other two at 28 day intervals. There is a handy little record sheet on the packet as well where you enter your dog's name and the date each treatment is given. There is also a list of hints and tips under 'For Safe Use' which you should read before use.
Right, now to the nitty gritty and how to actually use it on your dog! Providing you get him/her to keep still long enough for you to do it! What you need to do is clip the end of the nozzle of 1 tube - I did mine with a pair of scissors. Then I had to virtually pin Ollie to the floor while I parted his fur between the shoulder blades and the nape of the neck. Do not put the liquid on the fur. Once you have parted the fur, put the liquid onto the skins. You don't need to put it right down the spine. Just on the neck.
It tells you not to handle the area for 3 - 6 hours after application. And to wash your hands after use. CAUTION: EXTREMELY POISONOUS TO CATS.
But, does it work? Well, yes it does. Bob Martin is a well-known and trusted brand. I've used their products before and have always been happy with them. Ollie hasn't been scratching so much. I shall use all 3 tubes just to be on the safte side.

...so we decided to try Bob Martin Dog Spot on. You can buy Spot on in pet shops or like we did and found it very handy in Tescos along side the pet food. The cost can be between £3 and £5 all according to how large your dog is and how many treatments you want to give him. Dont worry if you dont know how much your dog weighs they do say for small, medium or large size dogs and give you examples which makes it very easy to choose what size you need. ... ...does. I put Bob Martin Spot on as a suggestion a little while ago and as you see I am now doing a dooyoo on it. But, sadly between my suggesting it and it getting on my dog has passed away. He was 17 years old and went in his sleep but I miss him so much but decided to still write this. Thank you for reading x Summary: use before they get fleas and you will feel happy and so will your dog
also on dooyoo ...

I find flea powders and sprays messy and the dog usually doesn't stand still long enough anyway. With a spot on liquid product it's very easy to use because you just snip the end off the small vial and apply to the skin on the top of the neck. The packs come in different sizes for different sized dogs and for a large dog you use two vials, which lasts for 4 weeks. Each pack comes with 12 weeks worth of protection.
Not only does it kill any fleas ... ...four weeks, so if you use it continuously you should never get any fleas again.
If your dog gets very wet in the four week period, the protection is reduced so they recommend re-treating him.
It has no odour so is pleasant to use, but always wash hands after applying.
For the large dog size it costs only £4.99 for 12 weeks supply. ...

Advantages: Kills SOME fleas...Maybe Disadvantages: Does Not Get Rid Of All Fleas, VERY Harmful to Cats
Bob Martin Flea Drops are a complete waste of time & money, because it basically does not work effectively. Because Bob Martins can be sold anywhere, it is only liscenced to kill up to 60% of fleas. The stuff from your vets (Advantage, Frontline, Stronghold) can only be sold by a vets, and that is because it is liscenced to kill 100% of fleas.
Basically, you are just going to end up spending more money. By the time you buy Bob Martins (from a shop ... ...very wary of is that Bob Martins DOG Flea Products are EXTREMELY toxic to cats, so beware. I witnessed first-hand a cat die because of it. Basically, the owner used the cat flea drops, they didn't kill the fleas, so they went out and bought a stronger version - the dog drops. The chemical slowly poisoned the cats system.
Cats who live with dogs can also be affected. Please be safe rather than sorry - use a fully liscenced product from a fully liscenced ...

Quick review of Bob Martin Flea & Tick Spot On
This product is unsafe and should be withdrawn from general sale. In my experience it is far more likely to cause your cat a horrible death through toxicity than to kill any fleas. It seriously is not worth the risk. Spend a little more on at a licensed pharmacy or vet practice and get a safe product that actually works with proper professional advice. Bob Martin Toxicity cases are so common that your average vets won't bat an eyelid if you mention it. Seriously do avoid this product. It rarely kills fleas and is more likely to kill your much loved pet. ...

BobMartin Cat Spot On:
We got this product as part of our ongoing battle against poor Tifa?s fleas. She hates them, they make her itch and generally drive her crazy. We hate them too, nasty little hoppy, biting pests! They also appear to immortal! We have been fighting the good fight for over two months now and the things just won?t go away.
The ?spot on? type treatment is familiar to many pet owners. You get a tiny little bottle of the product which you open and then squeeze the contents on to the back of the neck. It sounds simple and for the most part it is.
The BobMartinSpot On product has an immediate flaw. You have to snip the top off of the bottle instead of it having a ?bend and break? type arrangement like some of the other spot on products on the market. This may sound like a small problem but this is insecticide we are ...
Advantages: cost-effective, happy dog, happy owner, dead flea Disadvantages: lasts about 6 weeks before top up
With two cats & a woof woof occupying my 4 bedroom house life is never quiet especially when all three animals go into "no brainer" mode and chase themselves all over the house.
Of course hygeine is paramount with any pet although I have my cats sorted with their own BobMartinFlea spray, it didn't work on the dog cus he got bitten.
Shampoos & collars don't agree with him so I resorted to this solution which is a doddle to apply (either on the shoulders on nape of neck). And because it is odourless and irritant free the dog doesn't go into a tiswas over it.
The results were quite dramatic. After only a few days use my dog felt better and his coat began to shine again.
Another good advantage with this product is that only costs about £6 at the best pet supermarkets, although it only seems to last about 6 weeks before topping ...
Since I aquired my cat already with fleas I have always been looking for an effective and easy solution to keeping him flea free.
After trying various things that didn't work and being advised again fleas collars, I decided to try BobMartinFleaSpot On on my boyfriends advice (who uses it on his dogs).
I immediately liked it because it is easy to apply with no mess and my cat didn't worry about me doing it at all. It says on the packet that your cat is protected for up to 12 weeks after application. I find that after 2 applications last time he was protected for about 5 months. So not only is it easy to apply it is very effective and therefore good value for money, and it means I don't have to put my cat through the trauma of visiting the vet. ...
