I've been playing Boggle for about 14 years - not to say that I'm a Boggle nut, I'm just very familiar with the game. Parker's Boggle is a word-forming game, consisting of 16 dice with a letter on each face, which you place in a container (half clear plastic dome, half orange grid for dice to lie in) and shake (NOISILY) to mix them up. each round is 3 minutes long, the point of the game is to use the upward facing sides of the dice in the grid to form as many 3+ letter words as possible and write them down. The catch is that for a word to count, the dice making up this word must be touching, in consecutive order in the grid, and you can only count each dice once. After the three minutes is up, everyone takes it in turns to read out their word lists. Any duplicate words (words found by more than one player) are discounted. Different scores are awarded for different length words - (3+4 letters = 1 point, 5 letters = 2 points, 6 letters = 3 points, 7 letters = 5 points, 8+ letters = 11 points) Although each "game" lasts only 3 minutes, most Boggle sessions usually last 4-6 games (or until one of you gets bored of losing every game!) A tip is to hide yous word list from prying onlookers, this will hopefully minimise the number of words copied and hence points deducted from your score. A spin-off game my family play sometimes, is "countdown-Boggle", where you are all given 30 seconds to find the longest word you can and write it down. The longest word wins.
Overall a very addictive game, immense fun, frustrating in a healthy way... even the Beastie boys are fans... In the track 'Putting the shame in your game' from the intergalactic album they say "I'm the king of Boggle there's none higher, I get 11 points off the word QUAGMIRE" excellent rhyming boys...
