Most people have a dosing scoop as they used to give them away with every packet of powder. Now that they don't, most people guess. But Bold offer a free scoop by calling them on 0800 0852 592. They also suggest you call this number if you need any advice on laundry tips.
I have very sensitive skin (ezcema), and find some washing powders make me itch and my ezcema flare up. I started using Bold a few years ago and stuck with it as it doesn't make me itch. This review is for Bold 2 in 1 powder, Ocean Clear.
The box:-
The box measures 8.25 inches by 6 inches. The Ocean Clear box is pale blue in colour. Rather than the usual detergent boxes where you have to tear out a square of the cardboard, this box has an aluminium easy-pour spout on the side of the box. To ensure the box hasn't been tampered with there is card also in the spout that is attached to the inside of the box (perforated), upon opening the box you can hear this perforation tear. This box contains 950g of powder (10 standard washes).
The powder:-
This is a 2 in 1 powder, meaning there is no need to buy or use a separate fabric softener. The powder is made up from two types of grains, the first a white grain is the detergent, the second grain (slightly larger) is the fabric softener. The overall appearance is a bright white powder flecked with blue.
The smell:-
I love the smell of this, its a clean fresh smell. Its not an artificial or floral smell. It reminds me of the clearest day on a small beach up the north of Scotland. One of my friends says it reminds her of that fresh smell there is outside just after its been raining.
Usage:-
There are the following guidelines for usage on the box
Heavy soiling - Hard water (270ml), Medium water (235ml), Soft water (195ml) Normal soiling - Hard water (195ml), Medium water (155ml), Soft water (115ml)
By heavy soiling they regard this as sports kits or overalls. It also suggests a further 90ml in the pre-wash compartment if you need a pre-wash and they also suggest adding an extra 80ml for an extra burst of freshness. I live in a soft water area and have found that even for a pair of very muddy jeans I didn't need to pre-wash them. This detergent is very strong but very kind to skin. I also don't add the extra 80ml for that extra burst of freshness they suggest. I've found my washing doesn't need it, even when washing towels and sheets I can still smell the Bold fresh smell upto ten days later when I take them out of the cupboard.
Most people have a dosing scoop as they used to give them away with every packet of powder. Now that they don't, most people guess. But Bold offer a free scoop by calling them on 0800 0852 592. They also suggest you call this number if you need any advice on laundry tips.
Temperature:-
Some detergents don't work too well at low temperatures. This one seems to work well at all temperatures. At 30 C, its removed tea from a skirt (I dropped and spilled a lot of things while I had my cast on!). At 40 C, which is the temperature I do most of my washing at it removed foundation from a white blouse without need for any special treatment or pre-wash. It left my whites sparkling even on a low temperature wash (30 and 40 C).
Cost and value for money:-
The cost of this box was ₤2.33 from Tesco, it retails for around the same price in Asda and Morrisons. Compared to a rival big brand (which doesn't have a built-in fabric softener), Bold works out 11p cheaper for the same size of box and you also save the cost of a separate fabric softener. Although the box of Bold says it contains enough for 10 standard washes (23.3p per wash), I found I got 15 washes out of this box (15.5p per wash). Some supermarkets carry larger boxes of this powder, a standard 30 wash box retails for ₤5.07 in Tesco (16.9p per wash). So if you have a large family a larger box would work out cheaper. The cheapest option for Bold is an 11.4Kg box, which is available from places like Costco and Makro. Costco charges ₤12.99 plus VAT (₤15.26 inc VAT) for the 11.4Kg box. This box suggests you will get 120 standard washes from it (12.7p per wash).
Would I recommend this? Yes I would, its very kind to my skin, the fragrance lasts and is very economical, with less than is recommended being used to produce stunning results.
Advantages: Two products in one. Disadvantages: None except for preferences
...We have been using Bold for years now, others have been tried but fail in one important category, this will become apparent as you read the opinion. As with all my opinions this is my view, the results are from the washing done here, the water comes from the tap I don’t condition it, I live in a fairly soft water area. I mention these few things as I know that the degree of hardness of the water plays an important part in the action of these ... ...The detergent used in Bold is biodegradable, after you have finished with it Bold slowly decomposes back into a natural substance.
Whatever they use to make Bold with it makes it different from other detergents as my wife, who has a very sensitive skin, finds that this is the only one that doesn’t bring her out in a rash. This is only the effect it has on Linda, I wouldn’t claim that others would not have an allergic reaction to it.

Advantages: It smells nice and cleans Disadvantages: Need a seperate conditioner
...I bought 2 in 1 Bold Hawaii Fresh.
This product is manufactured by Proctor and Gamble UK.
The 2 in 1 refers to the fact that it has fabric conditioner included in the powder.
Presentation
This product comes in a yellow box with the Bold lettering in an orange/red colour with a finding Nemo promotion. Collect the tokens off the top of the box and send away for finding Nemo toys and towels. Yes yo do have to pay for them. (Typical).
The box weighs ... ...using 175ml. It cost 2.89 at my local Spar. So there I am separating my son's clothes from ours, so I can use the last of my usual powder on his clothes.
I put in the recomended amount of powder, which roughly translated is a cup and a half, as I have hard water in my area. Turned the dial to a 40 degree wash. Closed my newly fixed door and waited.
Did it clean?
Yes it did. My kids are muck magnets, they could get dirty in a hospital. I was impressed ...

Bold is the washing powder I used most frequently. Yes, I do try others. If there's new or different brands on the market, I'll try them. But, in the end, I always go running back to good old reliable Bold. Why? Because I love it!
And now, there's a different kind of Bold on sale which I've not tried before. It's '2 in 1 Bold Aqua'. And it's NEW with freshguard! The 2 in 1 is like the shampoo. It has a built in conditioner, which saves you spending ... ...pack about Freshguard:-
"New Bold has FreshGuard in its built-in conditioner. It actively works against everyday odours that can build up on your clothes and leaves them smelling 'just-washed' fresh throughout the day".
Well, whether it's the freshguard that keeps them smelling nice or not, it's true what it says. Your clothes are left smelling fresh and clean for a good while after being washed. I paid £2.60 something for a 1.1kg box. You know ...

Advantages: hmmmm....well it cleans Disadvantages: needs a seperate softner
Someone should tell Bold there falsly advertising. I usually buy the brand of wash powder thats on offer in the supermarkets and last week Somerfield happened to have Bold on offer so I chose that one, I agree that the the powder does smell nice while in the packet but when I had washed the clothes I found no difference through using Bold then using no softner at all. The clothes didn't even smell any fresher then normal so I put them on a rinse ...

Advantages: inexpensive, softening agent incl., easy iron additive reduces ironing time Disadvantages: biological so not suitable for sensitive skins
...then finally settled on trying Bold as I found it at Wilkinson's for the same price as most supermarket brands. I sawe it already had softener in it, so this was a plus, as it meant I could try it without the added expense of a softener. In went the wash. I decided to really put it through its paces by not pretreating the collars, and washing on a 40 degree wash. Out came the ground in grime. Now admittedly, I do still have to use a good stain remover ... ...lot more than just grease mixed in it and requires a really above average stain remover. I will write more opinions on THAT subject much later. I was very pleased with the results i had gotton on the workshirts, and I must say that the beach towels I had washed with the work clothes came out fairly soft. The scent was very long lasting as well, and the variety of scents available to choose from is very good.
All in all, I was very pleased with this ...

Reviews which might be of interest for "Bold Washing Powder"
come out wonderfully clean and smelly beautifully but it also is so super soft. I have to admit to adding a touch of fabric conditioner in with the washing as well as one of these liquid tabs but not as much as I would usually.
The bold product itself comes in three different fragrances but this one I have found to be the nicest for me. Because Jack is still so young and his skin (along with my partners) is fairly sensitive at first I thought this would cause some irritation because up until recently I have been using non-bio but again the Bold 2 in 1 was brilliant and was kind to both my boys sensitive skin and caused no irritation in the slightest.
All in all I think this Bold 2 in 1 washingpowder is brilliant and I do think I will continue to use it (at least until there is a good bargain on another brand!). It really does clean ...
Advantages: Clean fresh smell, good value Disadvantages: Awkward box, price as part of the grocery shop in a supermarket.
.
-Price.
2 boxes (84 tablets per box, 42 washes per box, 84 washes from the whole pack) of these Ariel tablets cost me £11.99 at Makro (excluding 15% VAT), so even with the VAT added. This is very good value considering tablets are more expensive that powders, and a 90 wash box of Bold can cost £16+ at the likes of cheap stores such as B&M.
At Sainsbury?s a 24 wash (48 tablets) box of Ariel Tablets costs £6.78 so the Makro price compares favourably!
-Performance.
All you have to do is open the foil wrapper and a tab makes sure that they are opened in a straight line down the side of the wrapper, so they are easy to just tip into the drawer of the washing machine.
Ariel Tablets always seem to remove any stains/dirt I may acquire on a day to day basis, and even without fabric conditioner they seem to leave everything soft and non ...
Advantages: No need for separate conditioner Disadvantages: cost
I have used Boldwashingpowder for ages, I find the cleaning power is great and the addition of not having to add conditioner even better. I have seen the Bold 2 in 1 wash tablets but it was not until recently that I decided to give them a go.
Upon opening the box I was pleasantly surprised by the scent, such a clean fragrance, it?s hard to put into words, but mmmmmm probably sums it up. When you open the tablets which are wrapped in twos the smell is even more noticeable. At the moment I am using their woodland rain fragrance, which they say captures the natural tranquility and clean scent of fresh woodland after a rainstorm. I am not so sure about that, but I do like the scent as well as the scent of their other products.
I bought a box of 48 tablets, that gives 24 normal washes although they do recommend for heavily soiled ...
Gentle Powder Perfect for Handwashing, No Bleach, Easy to Use, Even Suitable for Silk!
The Smell is Alright (But Could be Improved), Might be Left With White Marks on Clothes if You Use Too Much Powder or If You Haven't Rinsed Thoroughly. (*)
