Advantages rain?
Disadvantages rain?
The 25th August 2000, is a night that I will remember for the rest of my life! WOW!!!! What a great night that was!
I’m a BIG Bon Jovi fan, and have been since I was 10. It’s the only music that my older brother would buy me for my birthday - he refused to buy "boy band" music for me. This was my first ever Bon Jovi concert, before my parents had thought I was too young, and Dublin had a 5 year drought of Bon Jovi concerts. Expectations for this concerts were high, and we were not disappointed.I travelled down to Dublin the night before with my boyfriend, and stayed in a nice wee hotel.
The day started off, nice, bright and sunny... by lunch time it had rapidly deteriorated into rain, but we weren't put off. See the problem is, the RDS is outdoors, and while we had got seating tickets, these were not under cover. As we entered the RDS, we were surrounded by Bon Jovi - fans, merchandise and a magic stage layout. The merchandise was a little expensive for my liking, but I bought a T-shirt just so I could remember the day.
The rain started to ease off by the time the two supporting bands (Bell X 1 And Andreas Johnston) had played their lot, and everyone was all ready for the boys to come on stage.Jon surprised us all by kicking off with "Livin on a Prayer" 10 minutes early, catching some people at the bar!
As the night went on, the rain fell heavier and heavier... there was thunder and lightning, but that just added to the atmosphere of a totally wonderful night. The Irish crowd surprised Jon by not following his lead in the instrumental in "sleep when I'm dead", instead doing a "funky chicken" noise which had Jon flapping his arms about on stage - you had to be there! The set list for the night was:-
LIVIN' ON A PRAYEREncore 1: MYSTERY TRAIN
BLOOD ON BLOOD
During "I got the girl" Jon brought his little girl Stephanie Rose on Stage, and danced with her. The song is about her, and it was lovely to see.
Throughout it all, the boys went on, despite the fact that they were getting soaked and standing on what can only be described as a lightning conductor, proving to us fans how dedicated they are. At one point Jon said that the rain was actually the angel’s crying cause they hadn’t got tickets to the show, but he invited them to come join the party anyway. This was answered by a large clap of thunder, and Jon looking obviously shocked said "Wow, you guy’s in Dublin sure got some powerful friends!".In all it was an amazing night, the electricity in the atmosphere was breathtaking. We were all soaked, but no one cared.
We all went home looking like drowned rats, happy drowned rats!Roll on June 10th 2001, for the next round!
