An Ode to Eddy!
Review of House Rabbit Handbook - Harriman, Marinell by kerryzach

Advantages: very detailed, simple to read
Disadvantages: very American, lack of illness info

I’m not sure if the house rabbit trend has hit this country yet but it is a big hit in the USA. My house rabbit died a few months ago from a disease caught from my mouse- catching cat - VHD - Viral Hemorrhage Disease. It is fatal to rabbits and can kill them within twenty four hours but does not hurt any other animal! My Eddy died very quickly and in a lot of pain so we decided not to replace him. We had had him for five years and he was our first ...
...and found some of my House rabbit books. I’ll introduce you to keeping a house rabbit then you can decide whether it is for you or not! Marinell Harriman’s House Rabbit Handbook is quite old now, published in 1995 but it was a huge hit in the USA. There have been a couple of revised editions I think. Harriman actually founded the House rabbit Federation in the United States. There is not a great deal of books for indoor rabbits in the UK so it was ... Read review

The view from the ridge
Review of The Rhodesian Ridgeback - Eileen M. Bailey by SueMagee

Advantages: One of the better books about the breed.
Disadvantages: Much of it is only relevant in the USA.

...I wanted details about the breed standard (that's the written list of the characteristics which would make up the perfect dog), quirks of character, training needs and possible health problems. I was interested too in having some background to the development of the breed and some good pictures wouldn't go amiss. The dogs which have my heart are Rhodesian Ridgebacks - the lion hunters of Southern Africa. They're big dogs in every sense of the word, ...
...adult) and a heart, as the song says, as big as all outdoors. The first book on the breed which I bought was Stig Carlson's "Pet Owner's Guide to the Rhodesian Ridgeback" which I found disappointing, but I'm happier with Eileen M Bailey's "The Rhodesian Ridgeback". It's part of the "An Owner's Guide to a Happy Healthy Pet" series of which 1.5 million copies have been sold. It's good but it's not perfect. Although this is sold as one book by Eileen ... Definitely not the canine's danglies
Review of Pet Owner's Guide to the Rhodesian Ridgeback - Stig Carlson by SueMagee

Advantages: Good descriptions of the origins of the breed and some good pictures.
Disadvantages: Much of the content isn't relevant to people who simply want to own a Ridgeback as a pet.

...breed, rather than for a pet owner as the title of the series would suggest. On the other hand I do like the fact that he doesn’t take the breed standard as gospel and suggests that you should disregard discrepancies and look at the dog as a whole. My older dog weighs some 7kg more than the breed standard and is rather taller too. She’s an exceptionally fit dog and the vet says that her weight is perfect. I was rather surprised that there wasn’t ...
...proportion of a book for pet owners to the subject did seem excessive. There are some good photographs of Ridgebacks in the book. Some are taken professionally, but I suspect that most are of Mr Carlson’s own dogs. It’s a limited selection though. Ridgebacks fall into two categories. Most have a dark nose and correspondingly dark eyes. There are some though who have a pink nose and hazel eyes. These are known as livers – and there isn’t a single ... Read review

Chicken soup, what is this to do with pets?
Review of Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's soul by BUBBLES171

Advantages: there is no soup
Disadvantages: still do not know why it is called chicken soup

...it was a book called Chicken Soup and thought why the hell as she sent us a book about Chicken Soup. The Cover ------------- The main part of the cover is white and it has the title of the book, Chicken Soup for the Pet Lovers Soul. It is stories about pets as teachers, healers, heroes and friends. It has stories in written by american novelists and everyday people. In fact I got so much into it, I sent them a story. On the back is comments by ...
...is going to be another Chicken Soup book coming out shortly. I hope this gives you an insight into the book. It costs around £7 in the U.K. Would I recommend it? -------------------------------- Yes I would as I love stories about pets, but sometimes they are too long winded where as this book they are all short stories. Just enough to get one intime for bed night reading. There is no nastiness in the book and it is such a beautiful book to ... Read review

Great book about Guinea Pigs
Review of All About Your Guinea Pig by GraingerN

Advantages: to the point information without jargonated terms
Disadvantages: none

...4ft for two as with all animals when bought at 8 weeks old they will inevitably grow and require more space later on. You also have the choice of a large indoor cage as Guinea Pigs also make great house pets being that they are quite domesticated and laid back. EXERCISE Playtime is a must for all animals and although Guinea Pigs seem not to be interested in toys as such they like to stretch their legs, nibble at the grass and take in the fresh ...
...though from softwood and mesh you can easily construct your own design, though a shaded area is necessary for the summer. An interesting addition to this section is a small piece on how to understand their language. It’s quite amusing actually as I’ve only heard my newbies squeak once and that was probably telling me where to get off uncovering them on such a cold day! FEEDING Here you will learn what type of food bowl and size water ... Read review
