It's a bit of a hole these days, if I was an away fan I probably wouldn't think much. But try to look beyond the flaking paint, the decrepit facilites and the frankfully abominable toilets to a ground of considerable charm, of vast potential and of great memories.
The away end varies. Supporters of teams bringing less than 500 or so will get 535 seats in the Main Stand. If they look like bringing more than that they'll get the away end, an uncovered terrace which is not the best in the world. For us, there's the Main Stand, and it's pretty tatty too - if we were not moving to a new stadium it'd be in urgent need of renovation.
Then there's the South Stand behind the goal, a huge construction with several thousand terracing spaces and 3,000 seats. Best of all is the Kempton - a covered terrace holding 2,000. The first to sell out every week, it's a noisy intimidating place.

I went to Boothferry park last November to watch my beloved Hayes get knocked out of the FA Cup by Hull City by three goals to two. A round trip of about 500 miles on a Tuesday evening. That's dedication for you. Or madness as the wife told me. Anyhow, I was very impressed with the ground.
As you approach the place it has the feel of a traditional English football ground. You see the floodlights miles away, you know that wonderful feeling as you ... ...not a problem if you park in one of the maze of residential side streets full of white telephone boxes that is Hull.
You walk towards the ground, with mounting excitement, turn the corner onto the forecourt and what do you see?.....A Supermarket. After a few moments of nervous confusion, you see the entrance to a football ground Just to the right of the fresh fish counter. Oh dear, they seem to have solld the away terrace to Iceland or whoever it ...

Advantages: Team spirit, excellent management Disadvantages: Need a new ground
Earlier on this season it looked as if HullCity were going precisely nowhere, they were locked out of BoothferryPark and seemed to be facing financial ruin. After nine games the team were bottom of the Third Division and things were really bleak.
Manager Brian Little has now taken this team to the play offs against Leyton Orient. The Tigers approached the first leg of these play offs as one of the form teams of the division, losing only two out of their last twenty matches. It has often been stated about many clubs that they are a 'sleeping giant' or that 'there is a great deal of potential about a particular team'. I really believe that these statements are true about HullCity. If the new ground becomes a reality, if the team win their way through to the Second Division, then this will truly be a remarkable turn around.

right when he wrote about the tribal jungle. I can just about recall seeing him on 'Zoo Time' on our portable black-and-white set in the 1960s. Money does corrupt.
Full back Frank Banks was my favourite player. He was the only player who wore his wedding ring on the pitch, which was quite romantic. I went to school with Paul Dennison whose father played for HullCity nil and Wolves (?).
The funniest thing I remember about going to BoothferryPark was carrying 2 carrier bags full of M&S crisps, chocolates, nuts etc. HullCity even had its own train station at the ground. The best match was probably the victory over Sunderland. John Hawley later to be sold to Arsenal for 75K scored a brilliant goal from an impossible angle. Even the Sunderland fans applauded which was big of them. I would love Clare Tomlinson to analyse that goal using ...
