...day when I was in Boots I came across their own brand Anti-bacterial Handwash, for dry, sensitive skin. It wasn’t too expensive, it was a buy 2 for £2.50 offer, and each bottle contained 250 mls.
The packaging is pretty standard for hand wash, a rectangular bottle, with a pump action dispenser on the top. This makes it easier to use and sits easily on the wash hand basin.

Even though I have been calling this handwash Liquid soap, I really shouldn’t as this product does not actually contain any soap, and that is why it works so well on sensitive skin. It didn’t leave my hands feeling dry or sore like some other anti-bacterial handwashes do. There was no need to use hand cream afterwards ... more
When I was doing my nurse training, we had this one lecturer, who, like most teachers, had a pet hate that is unique to them. Sally’s pet hate was well known to all that she taught - bacteria. For many a lesson we listened as Sally described in great, almost eccentric detail, all about what these little "creepy crawly buggies" could do, and the many places they were capable of hiding in. We’d all have enjoyed her classes if she hadn’t been so scarey about those stupid bugs.
Sally is obsessive about hand washing, and rightly so for nurses in this day and age of MRSA and other hospital acquired infections.
I recall one lesson where Sally described in great detail the perils of using a bar of soap - how a bar of soap was used to wash the bacteria off one persons hands, and then the next person that came along (remembering that bacteria thrive in a moist environment) would gain, not only the previous person’s "bugs" but those that had subsequently reproduced since the last person used it. This of course would continue building up to the stage that it would be more hazardous to wash your hands with a bar of soap than it would be not to wash your hands at all.
We were all recommended to use liquid soap, and from that day, I have done as Sally said, and always feel guilty if I have to use a bar of soap to wash my hands, I keep expecting Sally to jump out and shake her head at me, and make me write an assignment on the perils of owning a dog and the disease that they can spread (because that’s the sort of thing she makes you do!).
Believe me, we could be here for days if I had the time to tell you more Sally stories, but firstly, I’m sure you’re not all that interested, and secondly, I can feel myself beginning to sound like my father.
So that’s why I’m writing this Op on soap, because of Sally.
Since that day, I have searched for the best liquid soap, preferably those that have anti-bacterial properties. A few that I used had a very clinical smell to them, and left your hands feeling quite dry and stinking of the soap for a good while afterwards. Others while they had lovely fragrances, did not have any antibacterial properties, and therefore, in my book, they were useless.
I also tended to find that these liquid soaps were very expensive, but one day when I was in Boots I came across their own brand Anti-bacterial Handwash, for dry, sensitive skin.
Now to smell, I found that this had a fairly neutral smell, it was not too overpowering as some tended to be, and it didn’t seem to have a clinical smell - so I didn’t feel like I was back in work!
Even though I have been calling this handwash Liquid soap, I really shouldn’t as this product does not actually contain any soap, and that is why it works so well on sensitive skin. It didn’t leave my hands feeling dry or sore like some other anti-bacterial handwashes do. There was no need to use hand cream afterwards either. The label on the back claims that it is pH balance and Dermatologically tested, and so this means it should be gentler on the hands.
A word of caution though, antibacterial soaps can also wash away good bacteria, so it's a good idea not to wash your hands excessively!
Boot’s Anti-bacterial handwash was excellent at it’s job, I was really impressed by it, and would not dream of using any other product again - after much searching, I think I’ve found the one that is perfect for me!
Advantages: Cleans the hand and reduces bacterial build up Disadvantages: Dry out hands with over use
...Hand washes are produced by Boots and come in three refreshingly fruity fragrances, Apple (green coloured wash), Lemon (yellow coloured wash) and Satsuma (orange coloured wash. Personally, my favourite flavour is the Satsuma. However, be warned, parents with young children should be aware that this hand wash has an enticing smell which could encourage a child to ingest it orally. On the back there is a warning to keep this product out of children’s ... ...one get one free offer. Just one tip, before going to Boots check out their website to see what is on offer. Having worked for Boots for a period I think there products are of a very high standard. Been a company based on the science of pharmacy rather than just the sale of ‘products’ they create wonderful balanced items. There suntan lotions are the best (beating in my opinion even branded versions). The hand washes are nice I use one in my lab everyday when I take my lab gloves off the smell is strong not so strong you start to feel ... ...you up. But this wouldn’t stop me using Hibiscrub before I use it! (hibiscrub- been a highly effective industry antibacterial agent). Soap has not been replaced – but they have added in a nice new product to use after it! Nice talking to you E. ...

I began shopping in Boots when I had my two children. I found they had everything a Mum needed. As my children grew up my shopping requirements gradually changed from nappies and wipes to hand washing. Isn’t it interesting that only when we are buying with our children in mind do we start to think about how easy things are to use? Well that became my dilemma when my children became old enough to wash their own hands. I felt that a bar of soap was ... ...So what did Boots have to offer? I like their own brand products, as they are usually excellent value, so I had a look in the liquid soap section. I had usually bought the odd bottle of liquid soap from the supermarket (Carex), but I saw Boots had their own version. I was looking for something fairly plain and simple without a fancy fragrance. This Boots one seemed to fit the bill, their Anti Bacterial Liquid soap was a little cheaper than Carex, ...

Advantages: Works well, cheap, smells nice Disadvantages: None for me
When we first moved into our cottage we added a downstairs cloakroom and because the sink is only tiny we don?t have room for a conventional soap dish and so we use handwash.
As it is for the cloakroom I usually look out for special offers and the one that I have just finished using is BootsAntibacterial Handwash with Aloe Vera which currently costs £1 for 250ml.
The Packaging
The handwash comes in a flattish square plastic container with a pump action dispenser. It is all plastic and so all recycleable once the contents have all been used. The container is opaque so the green handwash is visible through the sides and you can see how much you have used.
Although the handwash is cheap to buy the container looks smart enough to stand in your kitchen or bathroom.
The label has the blue Boots logo together with the words ...
Advantages: smells wonderful, gentle, moisturising, cheap!! Disadvantages: tempting for kids to squirt it everwhere!
After reading Belfastgirl’s excellent opinion on BootsAnti-bacterialHandWash, I had a look round Asda yesterday to buy us some liquid soap. I had already started using it downstairs, trying a couple of different types, but still had the old bar of soap in the bathroom – basically because it is harder for my five year old to destroy!
However, after reading Belfastgirl’s opinion about how her lecturer (during her nurse training) would describe all the bacteria present on a bar of soap, I realised I wouldn’t be happy using soap so much now. I am quite funny about germs anyway and this is just the sort of thing to change my product loyalty!
So I had a look round the liquid handwash (what a catchy name!!) aisle at Asda and found the Palmolive range, which were on offer at only 98p each. There are several ...
