We always use a liquid soap in our house. We have an anti-bacterial one in the kitchen and for the bathroom we tend to usually get whatever is on offer in the supermarket when we do our weekly shop. Last week we were running low on soap so my husband popped into Boots the chemist on the way home and came back with a bottle of Boots Camomile and Lemonbalm Handwash.
The soap is made by Boots and therefore only available in their shops. It comes in a 250ml bottle and costs £0.99. For liquid soaps I think this is pretty good value. I prefer liquid soaps as they are more hygenic than bars of soap as you don't leave your germs or dirt on the bar of soap for the next person.
The bottle is clear so you can see the white soap in the bottle, also good as you can see how much is left. The label on the front has a lovely white flower which I presume is a camomile as its looks very like a daisy. It says it contains natural extracts of camomile and lemonbalm
In the Middles Ages lemon balm was used to ease tension, dress wounds, and as a cure for toothache it was even thought to prevent baldness.It was also thought that Lemon Balm was good for promoting long life (slightly doubtful about this one, especially when it is in a soap!). Camomile has many uses including as a disinfectant, colds, colic, a digestive tonic for stomach cramps. It is probably most commonly used as a tea to help calm the drinker. What these ingredients do for your skin I am not so sure, the bottle doesn't say but I assume they are gentle and soothing to your skin as well.
There is a pump handle on the top so its easy to dispense the soap. When I dispensed the soap I got the right amount but withdrew my hand too quickly and a small trail of soap leaked down the sink. If you hold your hand for a second longer till the pump returns to its
original position you can avoid this problem!
The soap claims to "moisturise and care for your skin, leaving it feeling soft, smooth and conditioned" - so does it do what it says on the tin? Well I would have to say yes. I have very dry skin on my hands, a mixture of eczema and having to wash my hands excessively during the day as I work on a hospital ward. I do find some products can irritate my skin so I was intrigued to try this out.
The soap felt pleasant to use, it is a nice consistency, not too thick but not too watery either and quickly foamed up as I rubbed my hands together. After rinsing and drying my hands they smelt lovely and
fresh. The delicate scent continued for at least an hour. My hands feel a little smoother but I still feel I would want to use a moisturiser as well at some point during the day.
I think its a good soap for everyday use, excellent value for money and pleasant to use.
