I prefer to use cleansing wipes to clean my face rather than a facial wash requiring water, because using a facial wash requires a daily fresh flannel which then has to sit in the laundry basket making other items wet, and which often gets stained with eye make-up. Using the cleanser and toner method requires the purchase of cotton wool pads which can occasionally deposit irritating fluff in the eye. Therefore, cleansing wipes are the ideal solution. There is a wide range of wipes available; some are quite expensive, and some claim to unclog pores, or provide moisture, or have other effects.
The description for this product doesn't make any particularly grand claims, but merely states:
"Boots Essentials Cucumber Cleansing Wipes contain extract of cucumber to help gently soften and soothe. Enriched with soothing cucumber Aloe Vera and Vitamin E, Cucumber Cleansing Wipes work to remove make-up and excess oils, leaving skin clean, soft and smooth."
They are affordable at £2.69 for a pack of 30; and they're often in a buy-one-get-one-free type promotion, which makes them very good value.
The packaging is simply a green plastic pouch. Remove the top strip to expose the hole through which the wipes can be taken. Replace the strip again after use to ensure the wipes don't dry out.
They are scented with a mild, fresh cucumber scent, which I find fairly pleasant. If you don't like it, the same wipes are available in a blue packet in an unscented variety.
I have fairly sensitive skin but have no problem with these wipes at all. They remove make-up easily and have a smooth texture, leaving no fluff behind. They don't dry the skin but they don't leave behind a greasy finish as some moisturising brands of cleansing wipe do. After use, simply wait for the skin to dry before using moisturiser and applying make-up. They don't provide a deep-clean, so the cleansing routine could be supplemented by using exfoliators and facial masks weekly if you so wish.
The finished wipes should not be flushed down the toilet, but disposed of with household rubbish. I don't think they are biodegradable which is a disadvantage; there's no information about that on the package, nor information regarding whether the pouch itself can be recycled. I believe some wipes in the Boots Botanic range are biodegradable and clearly labelled as such.
The wipes do contain parabens, chemicals which concern some people. They are used for preserving products and protecting against microbial growth, and I believe that they're derived from blueberries. Most cosmetics and toiletries contain parabens, but if you like to avoid parabens then avoid this product.
I find the wipes easy to use and good value. They leave my skin feeling fresh, not oily and not irritated. They can be used in the eye area (with care, as with all products). They're a daily staple for me in my skincare routine, and I'd recommend them to everyone. I have even used them for dusting objects and surfaces as they don't appear to leave a residue, but that's probably just eccentric behaviour on my part!

Advantages: A primer/silky feel extender with the product. Disadvantages: Dries very quickly, cost, dries darker than expected, leaves dry skin looking worse.
