I have had mild hayfever for the past couple of years, but this summer (if you can call it that), it has been particularly bad. I would still describe it as mild compared to how some people get it, but I've been suffering with streaming eyes and nose as well as sneezing fits when I get anywhere near a flower.

Browsing the shelves at Boots, I noticed that their hayfever remedies were on a buy one get one free offer, so I picked up a couple of boxes.

~About the product~

Boots sell two own brand hayfever remedies - a regular one, which comes in an orange box, and a non-drowsy version which comes in a blue box. I bought the non-drowsy version, although it probably wouldn't have mattered which one I bought.

As well as relieving the symptoms of hayfever, it can also be taken to combat allergies, such as allergies to house dust mites, or skin allergies, such as rash, itching or hives.

Each tablet contains 10mg of Loratadine, which is an antihistamine, and also contains lactose, maize starch, pregelatinised starch and magnesium stearate.

They are suitable for adults and children over the age of twelve, but not recommended for use in children younger than twelve.

~My Experience~

The tablets should be taken once a day, and should be swallowed with a drink. They are fairly small, so are easy to swallow.

The first day that I took these I noticed no improvement. They certainly didn't work immediately which I was a bit disappointed with. The next day, however, I woke up and my eyes and nose weren't running, which certainly made a change from the previous few days. I thought 'wow, one tablet has worked', but I think I was a bit too quick to jump to conclusions, as by the end of the day I was beginning to notice the familiar runny nose and watery eyes.

I started to take the tablets again, but I have noticed, any time I have a day without a tablet, my symptoms return within 24 hours. I definitely feel that these work though, and they quite noticeably reduce the symptoms of my hayfever as long as I continue to take them daily.

~Price~

The tablets come in boxes of seven, which cost £2.65 or boxes of 30, which cost £7.79.

One thing I will say though, is that I read in a magazine, that often with tablets you are paying for the packaging, and the ingredients and the dosage are usually the same in cheaper brands. This is why I bought the Boots own brand tablets in the first place. I have since noticed that Boots sell a range called Value Health, and their non-drowsy hayfever and allergy relief tablets are just 98p - and guess what? They contain 10mg Loratadine, just like these ones, so I will definitely try the cheaper option in the future.

~Conclusion~

These really did help my hayfever, and it's good that you only need to take one a day, as it's easy to remember to take them. If you suffer from hayfever, I would definitely suggest giving these a try as I found they provided relief from a runny nose and streaming eyes, providing they were taken continually on a daily basis.

These sound good - I tried Superdrug's Non-Drowsy on a Sunday mid-day, I was wide-awake and practically bouncing off the walls til 5am Monday!!
