Advantages Handy as a last resort

Disadvantages Expensive, don't stay in place.

I am unfortunate enough to suffer from blisters. I mainly suffer when I go on the numerous runs I do for charity. The first time I needed relief, I popped (or should that be hobbled) to a supermarket and bought any old thing that would help.
This time, I thought I would go prepared and, after popping into my local Boots store, saw this product and decided to give them a go as Boots are a renowned name with a solid reputation.

THE PRODUCT
-----------------------
Boots Hydrocolloid Blister plasters, to give them their full title, are essentially a footcare item. People who need these can often be identified by hobbling along the footcare aisle!
Most people only need one on each foot at a time, so having to buy six at a time may seem a pain for some, in more ways that one! Having said that though, they do have a date stamped on them as to their life expiry, and are in a handy waterproof container.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR ON THE SHELF
----------------------------------------------------
When in Boots, head for the footcare section. This product will be hung (normally) in a blue plastic box. This little box that can be tricky to open will set you back around £5 for a pack of 6 blister plasters. Compared to some, this is expensive.

WHEN TO USE
----------------------
I normally use these as a preventative measure but Boots recommend use after you have painstakingly got your blisters!
You must ensure that your feet are clean and dirt free. They must also be bone dry for the plasters to stick on.

EASE OF APPLICATION
---------------------------------
Surprisingly easy! The peel-off backing has a white tab so it is easily identifiable and easy to peel. One word of caution though, the white tab may come off and then you would be back to square one. I only found this out when I disposed of the peel off in the bin and the white tab stayed on my finger.
The slightly more difficult bit is putting the plaster on the skin. As soon as contact is made, the adhesive works and it is hard to remove and replace. If you try, you may split the gel pack in the middle of the plaster, and the plaster will not adhere to your skin.

PRACTICALITY
---------------------
Ideal, possibly, when you have your painful blisters as they seem to work and stick better on established blisters. As a preventative measure, use cheaper ones that stick in their original position.
These Boots plasters ended up peeling off when I removed my socks at the end of a six mile run and a one mile trek to and from the car park. They were hanging off my sole at a ninety degree angle to which I had applied them! I don't think my running technique would affect them that much!!
Seriously, I applied them vertically along my foot, and they were horizontal across the sole when I finished, to give you an idea.

PAIN RELIEF OR A RIGHT PAIN?
----------------------------------------------
Unfortunately, these are a right pain!
I suppose that if used as suggested, they do the business. Used as a preventative measure, it is best to choose something else.
I personally would not shell out my hard earned crust on these for them to move around my foot. I can't say for sure as I am not a chiropodist, but I think with the plaster moving on my foot, it caused a small blister where I was trying to prevent them.

To conclude, Boots are renowned for their own brand products but unfortunately, this is one that I will be staying clear of.

Thanks for reading - I hope you stay blister free!
