I love body scrubs, and I tend to experiment with lots of different brands and styles. My most recent purchase was a Boots Mediterranean Melon Sugar Mint Body scrub. This is from the Boots new 'Mediterranean' range, which are a selection of products with natural and organic ingrediants. They only sell one size in this product - 200ml (or 6.7 fluid ounces). Now, for those of you who don't know your body scrub pack sizes I'd estimate that's enough for around 8 uses.
I bought this on a 3 for 2 offer, which I think is still on, and it's normal price is £3.85. So, as far as the cost it's a middle of the range purchase.
The packaging is nice and simple, and being a complete sucker for earth friendly
products, the fact that the ingredients are organic really appealled to me.
The principle of this product is that it's main contents are mint (for stimulating your senses), cantaloupe melon extract (for refreshing your skin) and organic sugar particles (which is what does the exfoliating). It's also got shea butter in so it's great if you've got sensitive skin.
The contents are a nice consistency - it's an unusual mushy pea green colour, but it's not too off-putting. The smell is wonderful, and really does smell like yummy cantaloupe melons.
So far so good....that is until you actually stop looking/smelling and start using!
The thing about this body
scrub is that it's ruined by it's own naturalness! They've used sugar grains in the mix so the grainy particles which you use to scrub over your skin really are sugar. Great - and so natural - except that like all sugar, this one melts as soon as it gets into contact with water.
The pack advises that you slightly damp your skin before you use the product, but I've found that even when you've only used a little bit of water the sugar dissolves on your skin before it does any real exfoliating.
The sugar's really really fine too - which makes this more suitable for a facial scrub rather than for the body.
It lasts around 5 seconds before it starts to dissolve, after which time all you've got it a nice smelling melon paste on your body.
I imagine that this could be good for people who have really sensitive skin, but on the whole I found it a dissapointing product.
The pack does advise that you can use it on dry skin, and then rinse well. This works better but because there's no lubrication on your skin you could use a whole pack on just one exfoliating session. Somehow using it dry just takes away the fun - it's not as easy to move around, and it takes lots to do a small area.
The rest of the 'Mediterranean' range looks great, with lots of unusual organic ingrediants. If you want to take a look at the rest of the products see www.
