I bought my first Boots Natural Collection mascara about 2 or 3 years ago, but the first one I bought was actually the original one, Natural Collection lash build mascara which is not waterproof. I liked it so much that I have since bought 3 or 4 and the latest one I got was this waterproof version. The only reason I actually decided to get the waterproof one was because I thought it was an added bonus for the same price. I was initially attracted to it because it was a very good price and to be honest I didn't want any of the other gimicky '2 in 1' or expensive mascaras in Boots like Clinique, Chanel, Dior, Ruby + Millie etc.
I was drawn to the Natural collection section mainly because I know that Boots own makes are good (like No7, collection 200 etc.) and also by the fact that it has 'natural' in the name. I'm not the most 'natural' of people at the best of times when it comes to make-up, but I assumed that it meant the products would be gentle and good for sensitive skin, which they are.I think the design of the tube is simple but quite attractive. Although it's plain white with black writing on it (with the logo and product name), it's still quite eye catching. I can always see the natural collection stand in boots as soon as I walk in because the plain designs contrast with all the bright colours.
The Natural Collection lash build mascara which I first bought had a simple, classic straight brush which was not the best brush ever but covered my lashes well and didin't clump. When I went back to buy the waterproof version and unscrewed the tube I was pleasantly surprised that it had a brush which was thick at the start and got thinner at the end - sort of like a mini christmas tree on a stick (I casn't describe it very well, but hopefully you get the idea)! This brush is much, much better that the straight one, because even though the straight one is pretty good, the 'christmas tree' one covers all your lashes a lot better. Also, if you're one of those people like me who find it very hard to apply mascara to your bottom lashes and get it all over your skin underneath your eye, then this is fab! The 'christmas tree' brush allows you to get right into the corners and if you brush your bottom lashes vertically (like I sometimes do if I want really dramatic lashes for parties etc.) then they just look great.I have very straight eyelashes so I use an eyelash curler every day to open them up and add a bit of curl. Some days I forget to curl them and if I try to curl them after applying the mascara then, well lets just say I have had a lot of previous experiences of it going horribly wrong and very clumpy! However with this mascara it's got quite a silky texture so you can curl your lashes afterwards no problem, just remember to wipe your curler with a wipe or something because you will get a bit of mascara on it which is not very hygienic.
I bought it for £1.95 which I think is an absolutely brilliant price for a quality mascara because loads of other brands in Boots (even their own No7 brand) are a lot more expensive ranging from about £5 to £20, which I would personally never pay for a Mascara unless it was an absolute miracale-worker!I haven't actually mentioned whether it's waterproof or not. Well, to be honest I haven't really worn it out in the rain that much but in the time that I've worn it for (about 6 months) i've never had any smudges under my eyes like I have with previous mascaras.
I don't buy mascaras as often as I should, which is not all that hygienic! But you do actually have to with this one because after a few months the liquid will go a bit dry and clumpy. I guess you could see this as a good point though because it encourages you to update it more regularly!Overall, I would recommend this to anyone who just wants a simple and good quality mascara. I would also recommend buying other products like eyeshadow and foundation/tinted moisturizer from this brand, as they're all very sensitive and gentle. A well deserved 5 stars!
