I first stumbled across this little miracle cream completely by accident. Approximately six months ago, I bought some Boots No 7 cosmetics, mascara and an eye pencil, if I remember correctly. There was some sort of ‘special offer’ on at the time, which I wasn’t aware of – spend £15.00 or more on Boots No 7 cosmetics and you get a free ‘gift pack’, consisting of a few different No 7 products, including, nail varnish, moisturising day cream, an eye-brow pencil a make up bag, and Boots No 7 Protect and Perfect Serum.
I took my little booty bag home and over the following few weeks, proceeded to work my way through my bag of freebies. Most of the stuff was fairly run-of-the mill, but when I cam to use my
Protect and Perfect Serum, it was another matter. My freebie consisted of an extremely small (5ml) tube of Protect and Perfect Serum and the first time I used it I was impressed. The tube advised to spread evenly over both the face and neck area, after carefully cleansing the skin. I did jut as it instructed and almost immediately I felt a definite difference in the feel of my skin. I know it sounds unbelievable, but once the cream had had time to penetrate, my skin felt decidedly smoother and even tauter. I continued to use the cream each morning and night, but as the tube was so tiny, this barely lasted me a week and I found that I needed to buy some more, as I loved the feeling it gave to my skin.
The following Monday during my lunch break, I wandered into town to my nearest Boots and went straight to the No 7 counter. I scanned the shelves but couldn’t find the elusive Protect and Perfect Serum. Once I’d caught the attention of the Sales Advisor and explained to her what I was looking for, she just shook her head and smiled. She told me she was very sorry but they had run out of stock. She went on to say that I’d be very lucky to find it anywhere as sales of Protect and Perfect Serum had far exceeded their expectations, apparently due to a recent Horizon documentary, which had been shown on BBC2.
The Sales Advisor went on to explain that the TV documentary had looked at various cosmetic claims regarding anti-aging products and that No7’s Protect and Perfect Serum had come out tops as far as anti-aging claims were concerned. A leading dermatologist from Manchester University had investigated claims by numerous manufactures regarding anti-aging creams and had come to the conclusion that this particular product seemed to work far better than any of the others, including many very expensive and better known brands. The result of this programme was that thousands of women had flocked to their nearest Boots stores and bought up all the available stocks. I was devastated. Here I had finally stumbled across something which really seemed to work wonders for my skin and every Boots branch appeared to be out of stock.
I moaned about my dilemma to my husband when he got back from work that evening. I didn’t think he was listening to me really as he just ‘ummed and ‘aahed over tea. However, the following week he had to go away to London on business. When he got back, lo and behold he presented me with a full-sized tube of the magical cream I’d been looking for! He obviously must have been listening to me droning on. He said he’s just walked into a major store in North London and picked one up no bother – it was as easy as that! I was ecstatic! The bottle he bought for me was a 30ml glass bottle complete with a very handy pump dispenser, so I can apply as little or as much as I want. I have to say, a little really does go along way though, and this is lasting me quite well, even though I use it twice a day.
The cream itself appears a little runny in consistency when you first pump it out of its container, but it actually isn’t once you apply it to your face. It’s a light off-white in colour and doesn’t smell of anything I can detect, so I guess it’s fragrance-free. It’s also hypo-allergenic, which s good for me, as my skin will often react with products which are not hypo-allergenic. The information leaflet states it contains “concentrated levels of collagen-boosting ingredients to smooth out lines and firm the surface of the skin” along with “skin-protecting antioxidants to help prevent damage from sun exposure, air conditioning and pollution”. It all sounds very grand, but I tend to ignore that stuff and simply go by how it feels on my face and how it makes me look. I can honestly say that it does make a real difference to my complexion. It seems to smooth out fine lines. I don’t think I have any ‘real’ wrinkles just yet, but hopefully, when they do start to appear, this stuff should eliminate them too!!
I’ve actually been back to my local Boots store since trying to find this product the first time, but stocks are still sold out. I was advised by a No 7 Advisor to check Boots website to see if I would be able to order any this way. I checked recently and it states that they are only allowing one bottle per customer, as stocks are very limited. Apparently, one bottle of Protect and Perfect Serum is sold every ten seconds!! I think this in itself is testimony that it works as people are going back for more and more! At £16.oo per bottle it’s not cheap, but having said that, it’s not the most expensive moisturiser I’ve ever bought either, and I would have to say that it’s money well spent! It makes an excellent make up base as it smoothes out my complexion and makes it more radiant and definitely makes me look a lot brighter and wide awake.
