Although I would say Boots isn't the first place that springs to mind when it comes to finding a bargain, their own brand range of medicines is one exception. Boots have a value line which carries... more

Advantages Advantages Simple, effective, easy to swallow, inexpensive

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not instant, won't work well on serious pain

Background I'm sure most of us keep at least some painkillers in our medical cabinets; sooner or later they're very likely to be needed, and it's a welcome relief (in more ways than one!) to be able to get some from within the house rather than trekking down to the nearest corner shop or chemist. Paracetamol is one of the types that just about everyone will have used at some time or another, and for good reason: it's cheap, it's readily available and if used properly it generally has fewer side-effects than some other drugs. For diabetics like me, who need to be careful about ibuprofen because ... more

    Advantages Advantages Great on headaches

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not brill for me in other areas

I get an awful lot of aches, pains and general headaches. I have a bad back every day and I suffer with M.E which explains all the other issues as well as sore throats and a swollen gland in my neck. Because of this I often pick up paracetamols and the likes to pop in my very large bathroom medicine cabinet. I buy tablets or caplets though the idea with caplets is that although they are usually a tad larger in my experience than tablets they are slightly coated in something which makes them easier to swallow and I combat the larger caplet by having a handy tablet/caplet cutter to chop them up ... more

Advantages Advantages Nice shape and easy to swallow

Disadvantages Disadvantages None at all for me

I always used to take an own brand painkiller, one with the same ingredients as Anadin Extra but since becoming pregnant I have had to resort to just paracetamol if I need a painkiller as I’m not allowed aspirin. I recently popped into my local Boots chemist to collect a prescription and picked up a box of their paracetamol caplets. Since I’ve been pregnant I have found it very difficult to take tablets, I just cant get them down. I decided to try these after my friend told me they are quite small and also a nice oval shape, round tablets are something else I’m struggling with right now. The ... more

    Advantages Advantages Works well

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none for me

As most people the last few years money seems to get tighter and tighter and so we have downgraded on just about everything and paracetamol is one of them. I really detest having to take pills so often leave it until the last minute when my head gets too sore to handle and always try and find the smallest pills available to make it easier for me to swallow. That is why I chose the caplet version of these tablets as they are the smallest option. They come in a blue box with all the ingredients and instructions for use on them so it is handy to keep. Inside the box the pills come in 2 foil ... more

I’ve had a dodgy lump on my jaw line for a couple of months now. I wasn’t experiencing any discomfort for the first few weeks, but just recently it’s been playing up when eating a big meal. Going around town last week, the aching pain turned up out of the blue, I hadn’t eaten something which normally triggers it. I didn’t have any painkillers on me, but I needed some if I was to carry on shopping, so I quickly went into the nearest place to buy some paracetamol which happened to be Boots. Information The dosage is the same for most other paracetamols, for anyone 12 years or over take 1 or 2 ... more
