There are certain times in a woman's life when she can be found hanging furtively around that section of Boots. You know the section, the one that's jam packed full of condoms and then if you look closely you'll find the pregnancy testing kits. Now if you're hanging around there due to the fact that you'd rather have your toe nails pulled out then be preggers then you'll notice that rather cruel and ironic joke! If you're hoping you are pregnant you'll smile smugly thinking I'll not be needing them!
Back in 1987, I found myself along with my flat mate one Saturday afternoon in a very busy Boots store - so busy we bumped into 4 friends, 2 work colleagues and the person who might have been called Daddy. Back in those days home testing kits were a novel idea and yes they were right next to the condoms even in those days. Having done our snatch and grab raid, we hurried home to actually do the test. On opening the box, we found what could only be described as a home chemistry kit
- complete with test tube, holder plus mirror and a pipette. A science degree was needed to do this 30 minute test. The result needed close interpretation as it showed up in the mirror underneath the test tube as a series of circles. How times have changed!
Boots along with all other pregnancy testing manufacturers now do the simple to use 3 minute test sticks - thank god! As with most tests Boots can be done the day your period is due so you'll not have that agonizing wait to find out either way. It used to be the case that pregnancy testing kits had to be done first thing in the morning due to the fact one of the pregnancy hormones Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) is at it's highest first thing in the morning. With the advent of new improved tests it now means you can do the test at any time of the day.
Why choose Boots Pregnancy testing kit? If you're like me you'll want to get the cheapest one you can. Boots sell two kits. The first is a single test kit for £7.99 and the second is a double test for £8.99. In all honesty I'd suggest you paid the extra pound as you never know when these things come in handy! also if you should get a negative result but your period is still late at least you'll not have to fork out another £7.99!
So you've run the gauntlet of Boots and haven't bumped into anyone you'd rather not bump into as you clutch that box. The bored check out girl gives you a sympathetic smile as you hand over your money and puts it in a near see throw bag and your now the proud owner of a Boots Pregnancy testing kit.
Boots Pregnancy tests can be used from the day your period is due. But unless you're as regular as clock work I'd suggest you perhaps left it till the day after. They can be used at any time of the day and Boots claim that they are 99% accurate.I would suggest that you don't drink gallons of fluids etc prior to doing the test as this might well dilute the minute amounts of HCG in your urine
On opening the blue cellophane wrapped box you should find your test stick(s) wrapped in foil along with a comprehensive instruction leaflet. Now even if you're a pregnancy test expert I'd suggest you actually read this leaflet, prior to taking the tin foil of one of those sticks!
Now having bolted the bathroom door it's time to actually do the test. Basically you'll need to unwrap the testing stick from it's foil wrapper. You'll now find you're holding what could be described as a long square shape pen in a lovely white plastic. The test has it's own cap along with two windows - a control window and a result window.On removing the cap you'll discover what looks like a highlighter pen filter - this is the bit that needs to soaked with urine for 20 seconds.At this point I have always found that actually trying to wee is rather difficult as your trying to aim at a rather small target! So perhaps a better idea is to actually wee into a clean receptacle and you can dip the test into the urine that way.
Once you have managed to soak the tip of the test you'll need to replace the cap so obviously it's best to keep it at hand! You'll now notice that one of the windows has a blue line in it! Don't panic/celebrate just yet this is the control window. If the blue line appears in this window it means you've done the test correctly. If a blue line doesn't appear at this stage then the test is either faulty or unfortunately you've done it wrong - I told you that extra pound spent would come in useful!
After 3 minutes you'll have your result. Should that nice blue line in the control window not have a matching friend in the other window then you're not pregnant. Should there be a blue line in the the other window you're pregnant! If it should be a faint blue line you are still more than likely pregnant - I have a six year old who was 2 faint blue lines. But you could do the test again in another couple of days perhaps leaving it this time for first thing in the morning as your HCG levels will be more concentrated.
Boots pregnancy testing kits are 99% accurate, it is highly unlikely that you'll get a false positive result. But if you have a negative result and your period is still late then do another test in 3 days time. If this is still negative then you should consult your Doctor as soon as possible as you should if you find out your pregnant
Boots Pregnancy Testing kit, offers you a reliable, easy to use test with the same reliability as other more expensive tests. It's also presently got extra advantage points should you make a purchase in the near future.You never know when you might need those advantage points!

Gawd, I remember the chemistry kit - you had to look for a circle in a mirror! By the time I was pregnant with Ruth we were onto the 3 minute jobs - she was 2 faint blue lines too!
