I must have signed up years ago but not actually reviewed anything until the past year as it seems I have been a Ciao member since 2004 :) Still finding my way around here too!

In almost every shopping centre and walkway you will find a Boots store.
Quick history lesson: Boots was established in 1849 by a man named John Boot and his son jesse. The company was sold to an American drug company in the 20's and was sold back to British owners in the 30's. In 1991 Boots bought the company Halfords which sold bicycle, car and camping equipment. Boots later sold Halfords in 2002. The company manufactures its own brand of painkillers, vitamins and other such drugs. Another interesting fact found is that in 2005 Boots was looking into selling sex toys but later abandoned that idea. Would have been interesting popping into your local Boots for some face wash and a vibrator, (*immature giggle*).
In general Boots is a convenient store selling many different items stuff from toothpaste to camera films. Some things can be a bit more expensive but when you're in a rush or desperate it's a life saver. As a mother with young children Boots has saved my bum on a number of occasions. If you have children you'll know what I mean. Just to give an example: I was out with my youngest not long ago and he needed a change as he had filled his nappy. Most Boots will have a changing room so I headed straight there with my other half. Moments into changing him we noticed he was going to need a full change. Not only a new nappy but all new outfit. I left my other half in the changing room with the baby and started around the shop. Boots has children's clothes (Mini Mode) which is rather cute. I looked around the clothes and as it was well stocked I quickly found a top and trousers in his size. I walked around again and found some socks in his size as well. Finally I ran down the nappy aisle and found nappy sacks. Nappy sacks are little plastic bags which come in a bag or box of about 75. Usually you would use them to put a dirty nappy in before placing it in the bin so as to not stink up the bin. I went to the till and purchased the items and then made my way back to the changing room. I know some of you mum's are thinking how daft I was for not having a spare outfit in the changing bag but these things happen!
For the most part I try to get the necessities during my weekly shop as it is less expensive that way, but Boots is very handy for those random little things you need whilst you're out.
The pharmacy at my local Boots is open late (midnight). I found this super helpful in the past week as my youngest started teething after the grocery store had shut. Every time I have needed something from the pharmacy they have been really helpful and knowledgeable so no complains there.
This next bit is going to make me sound a bit of a miserable cow but I will say it anyway. I like to be left to it when I go shopping. I know what I want and usually I know where to find it. I'm the kind of shopper that will ask if I need help and if I haven't asked I just want to be left alone. I have found Boots staff to be overly friendly. I don't mind a smile or a quick "do you need any help today?", but I got a good long story about the cashiers' experience of foot odour!

Advantages: Huge range of products, fantastic and regular special offers, great loyalty scheme Disadvantages: Sometimes over-priced, pharmacy is not as good as smaller pharmacies
