I admit it, I'm a sun-worshipper. When I was in Tenerife recently, I lay out in the sun from 11am-1pm. Dermatologists all over are now staring at the screen in disbelief, but come on... I always feel healthier with a tan and anyway, I was wearing lots of sun lotion!
I was sat in my hotel room one afternoon, getting changed, and realised I was peeling on my shoulders, and that I had a strip of pinkness on my tummy, where my tummy was exposed and I had forgotten to put on any sunscreen! Disgusted, I reached for my sister's aftersun.
I had a quick look at the bottle: Boots Soltan Aftersun with Insect Repellent. It claims to counteract the drying effects of the sun, and soothe your skin. It contains cocoa butter and allatoin. It's also 'non-DEET' but I don't have a clue what this means!
The bottle is light blue plastic, with black writing, and a slanted lid, making the aftersun easier to get out. Not the most attractive of packaging, really. It's quite sturdy, so you don't need to worry about it leaking in your suitcase.
I thought the insect repellent would might irritate my sensitive skin, but I wanted to banish the peeling and redness quickly, so I cautiously squirted a blob of the thin, runny white lotion into the palm of my hand.
I don't normally use aftersun, only moisturiser, after I've been in the sun, and you could notice the difference immediately; the aftersun was very soothing on the redness, and after a rub with a wet towel and a quick application of aftersun, the peeling had vanished.
I slathered it all over, actually, not just the bits that needed it because it felt really soothing and calming, and left my skin feeling soft, hydrated with no peeling or flakiness! It was absorbed quickly and without any greasiness.
I was expected my skin to react badly to the insect repellent in the aftersun, but my skin wasn't irritated at all. I don't normally get bitten by mosquitoes, or anything like that, so I can't comment on the insect repellent bit.
It DID prolong my tan, actually, which I wasn't expecting, with daily use throughout the one-week holiday. A week after I have come home, I am still hanging onto my tan - it normally disappears after three-four days!
However, the smell might put some people off - it's very chemical and sweet, but I have begun to like it because it reminds me of my holiday! Other than that, it's an effective aftersun that soothes skin and prolongs your tan.
I'd recommend sticking this in the fridge before you go out in the sun, because if you've burned, then the cold aftersun feels really refreshing on your skin and wakes you up, if you tend to get a bit dozy in the sun, like me!
It is fairly priced; at £8.99 for a 400ml bottle that should last a whole family for a two-week holiday, as a little goes a long way.

Lucky you not attracting mosquitos, I'm afraid they love my the taste of my sweet blood. I didn't realise that there was aftersun lotions with repellants. Thanks for that. Jackie

This sounds pretty good. I will have to get some. Unfortunately I always get bitten by something but have to be careful as I have an allergic reaction to mozzy bites. Great op. Tina :-)
