I struggle every year to get a tan and this year has been no exception. With only weeks until my wedding I have been considering using a fake tan. However, I am so scared of it going wrong after hearing many horror stories so I decided to try something I else.

I discover Soltan aftersun tan maximiser after burning my skin a couple of weeks ago. I didn’t go in the store looking for it as I had never heard of it before but as it was on special offer, two for the price of one I thought I would give it a go.

So What Does It Claim?
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
The product claims to moisturise you skin for 12 hours, prevent your skin drying and peeling, prolong your tan and enhance your tan. It is also dermatologically tested, and claims to be non greasy and non pore blocking.

What Is The Packaging Like?
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
No frills packaging really. It comes in a pale blue squeezy plastic bottle. Soltan have many different aftersuns to choose from and at the bottom of each bottle it tells you what type of aftersun it is, in this case it “Intensifes a tan”.

First Impressions
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
The bottle cap is very well designed it is about the size of a £2 coin and is easy to open with a small indent so you can get your finger under it to open it. The lid also has three strong plastic hinges which secure the lid open when you are using it which is useful as it doesn’t flip back down.

It is easy too to squeeze out as much or as little as you want from the small hole and the bottle sucks back in any excess so there is no waste. A small detail, but I hate messy bottles.

No smells immediately hits you and it is not until you squeeze it out and hold it to your nose that you get a smell. The smell is very mild but quite pleasant. It smells just like Johnson’s Baby Lotion and I am more than happy with that smell. It doesn’t smell artificial like many tanning lotions.

The lotion itself is very creamy and shines in the light. It is bright white but has a slightly thinner consistency than baby lotion. The lotion absorbs very quickly into the skin. It takes literally a few strokes for it to absorb into the skin. This is great as I am not one for fuss really, the quicker the better.

I did not have to use much as it spreads very well. I would say it takes a blob about the size of a 5pence piece to cover one arm. The smell fades quite quickly and my skin is left feeling moisturised but not greasy. It gives your skin a lovely healthy glow.

I have had a nasty case of sun burn on my back over the weekend and this has soothed my back and cooled it down immediately. I would say the effect definitely lasts the 12 hours it claims. It strangely is not ice cold on your skin when you put it on sun burn. I frequently burn, very stupid I know, and I hate the sensation of aftersun sizzling on my back, it actually makes me feel quite faint. This has not been the case with this product; it has soothed my burning skin without being too much of a shock to my system.

I normally peel a lot but I have not actually begun to peel yet. My skin really does feel richly moisturised so it has not peeled which is a great bonus. If your skin is sore from sun burn than peeling skin can increase your discomfort as it rubs of on clothes and sticks to bedding.

The aftersun contains Cocoa butter and Vitamin E which counteract the drying effect from the sun and leaves your skin feeling moisturised. I am a huge fan of cocoa butter and have always found it to be a great, intensive moisturiser.

So Does It Enhance Your Tan?
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
The product claims that within two hours your tan will begin to intensify. I have been using this product for a couple of weeks now, not only after being in the sun but as a tanning agent. I am scared of dramatic results from self tanning products as I am scared of having streaks, missing bits or going orange! I have been very pleased with the results from this product, it has begun to tan my skin gradually and I can see the difference after using it. As it only contains a low level of tanning agent the results aren’t drastic but I have a natural light tan colour.

I have not just been using this on the parts of my body that that actually see the sun but have been using it all over, just as I would a moisturiser. The effect of the tanning agent on these parts of my body has been mild and they are certainly not as tanned as my arms and face but they have begun to look slightly sun kissed. Don’t expect your skin to look bronzed though as this is only a very mild tanning lotion but I have been more than happy with the results. As it is mild too it doesn’t streak as it all looks natural.

I am one of those people that burn easily in the sun and then my skin gradually fades back to its normal white colour. I now am looking beautifully sun kissed and have moisturised skin.

How Much Is It And Where Can You Buy It?
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
The Soltan range is only available in Boots. It is currently on offer at £4.59 for 200ml but two for the price of one. What more reason do you need to try it!

Any Warnings?
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
You have to wash your hands immediately after use , which is expected really from any lotion containing a tanning agent. You also need to keep it away from clothes, hair and eyes. Also remember that it is an aftersun not a sun protector so remember to still protect yourself in the sun.

So Do I Recommend It To You?
*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*
In case you haven’t already realised I think this product is great. It really does do actually what it says on the bottle! It moisturisers your skin without any greasy or oily after effects. It is very absorbent and quick to apply. It enhances your tan and even lightly browns non tanned areas of your body. It soothes burning and stops you from peeling. It even smells nice too.

Highly recommended for those too afraid to go for high level tanning products.

This review is so easy to read. This sounds like a wonderful product, I tend to avoid the sun at all costs but somehow manage to burn anyway. Sunblock, long sleeves and shade still isn't enough for me.
