This Boots Soltan is the medium priced variety that I tried and is undoubtedly the best compromise in price and colour. Like all the other Soltan self tanning lotions, it will fade gradually, is hypoallergenic and is suitable for your face and body. It only takes 2-3 hours for the colour to start to appear, ... ...days. It can be used at any time of year or can even be used to prolong an existing tan. You will probably find that the colour looks best if it is applied over an existing tan. The directions are simple and are provided clearly and simply in bullet points on the back of the bottle, just make sure that you exfoliate really well before you apply it so that it is even and lasts longer.

Personally I am not fussed about what self-tanning lotion I use. I dont mind about the brand name too much as long as it has a natural colour and I certainly dont think that brand names have anything to do with whether it streaks or not. You want to know why? Ok, I'll tell you. I tried three differently priced self-tanning lotions:
The cheap one gave a nasty orange colour, the medium priced one had a nice brown colour that look very natural when it had dried and the expensive one had a gorgeous brown colour that after a few applications made me look like I had spent a week in Majorca! (Although, as you can imagine I looked a bit like a tangerine after using all these fake tans! The things I do for you Dooyoo people!) However, in proof of my point, none of them went streaky. I think that when you are looking for a quality self tan you should probably be prepared to spend a bit of money, just to get a lovely colour.
Anyway, one of my friends has spent over one hundred pounds on self-tanning products in search for the perfect one and says that she cannot find one that doesnt streak. I gave her two pieces of advice as follows:
1)Change the way you apply it. Most people apply the moisturiser, then the self-tanning lotion. I could never really do this very effectively and I always thought it took too long having to apply two different creams. I always ended up with slightly browner legs and bright orange hands! My advice is to build up a convincing fake tan by mixing moisturiser and fake tan in a 50:50 ratio in the palm of your hand (about a 10p sized blob of each will do the trick). Then mix it together and apply it to your body. For your face, mix more moisturiser and less fake tan in the ratio of about 70:30. If you do this for 2/3 days it will be gradually built up and look more natural (plus your friends wont be able to tell its fake so easily because there isnt that sudden change, it is built up gradually, as a natural tan would be!)

Want a secret? Wash your hands after use with a scrubbing brush. The first time I used a fake-tan product, I thouroughly washed my hands for at least five minutes after use but I didnt use a scrubbing brush and so I still had slightly orange hands. Also, make sure you scrub between your fingers too!
Hope this has been helpful, thanks for reading it!

Boots Soltan Self Tanning Mousse.
This mouse is of medium colour, or so it says on the bottle. I decided to purchase a fake tan to bronze up before the summer and to top up my existing tan from a holiday in South Africa.
Not having much cash on me at the time, I needed a self tanner that not only made me look gorgeous and brown, but didn’t cost me a fortune.
After looking at millions of different bottles of the stuff (and being pounced on ... ...I finally decided on boots soltan medium self-tanning mousse.
It seemed like a good choice because the previous year I bought a cream that was streaky and disgusting so I thought that this mousse would answer my prayers.
To apply this product, you must exfoliate and moisturise first (unless you don’t mind orange streaky legs), to get the best results. Then squirt the mousse onto your hand and rub on to the part of the body that you want brown.

Advantages: Evens skin tone, works in a couple of hours, stunning golden colour, moisturises. Disadvantages: Make sure you wash your hands!!
...look back.
I picked Boots Soltan Medium Tanning Lotion for my first attempt. I had been warned against the 'streaking' effects of using a spray, so thought that I'd try this lotion, which moisturises dry, tired skin as it goes along. I applied my first coat in the evening, washing my hands very carefully after applying. In the morning, I looked down to find a beautiful golden tan staring back. Was it always this easy?...
Once you have applied your ... ...which is available in all Boots Stores. You really will be surprised at how easy it is to achieve a stunning tan.
A reasonably sized bottle (the size of an average sun protection lotion) costs £6.99. It is a reasonable price to pay to achieve that tan you've always wanted.
I promise, you'll never look back.... (But sssshhhhh! - don't let everybody in on the secret!) ...

Advantages: DOesnt turn you orange Disadvantages: Takes AGES and not very noticably results
...me! I was in boots the other week and I have amassed £10 worth of boots points so I decided to splash out on some fake tan. I bought soltan self-tanning mouse. I am very nervous about applying this to regions visible on a daily basis i.e. my arms. S0 I decided I would just do my legs to start with. So I showered shaved, exfoliated, moisturised, some hours later and I have still to even begin putting the stuff on! So I sit down ready to go, take the ... ...bit too much mouse for a leg as it wont all rub in so I have this white stuff on my legs. SO I have to rub some off one leg and onto the other.
Getting a bit greasy now. It didn’t take to long to apply after all my preparation! Just be careful when squirting the mouse out as you don’t need all that much. And it can easily go every where!
So every hour I was eagerly checking awaiting some marvellously tanned legs to appear from under ...

Advantages: Easy to apply, cheap, effective Disadvantages: It takes a while to absorb
I bought Boots Soltan Medium Self Tanning Lotion in a buy one get one free deal that was on Soltan products at the time. The product i got 'free' was the Boots Soltan Medium Self Tanning Mousse. In comparison to the mousse, and in fact to most self tans i have used, i found the lotion extremely successful. It has the consistency of a moisturiser and is very easy to apply, rubs in with no problem and gives even coverage. The tan started to develop ... ...on just before you are getting ready to go out, unlike some fake tans which need applying the night before and eliminate the possibility of looking well bronzed on a spontaneous outing!
The colour it developed into was definitely noticeable but by no means orange. It was a pale bronze colour and looked as if you could have just come back from a week in the sun.
A great point about this fake tan is that it works well on the face, which minimises ...

Advantages: Shimmery, subtle, hard to streak Disadvantages: Needs patience. Lots of patience
(white is surely better than stripe?!). I found the solution in Boots, with their updated Soltan range, which is selection tans and an exfoliator with a shimmer and a tint to help you apply them with ease.
Since it's always a good idea to exfoliate and moisturise dry patches. I used the Soltan exfoliator because I'd run out of my last one- I tend to change exfoliators randomly. To describe the Boots one briefly, it's a moussey white cream with those little gritty things that do all the work and it leaves legs smooth and soft so it does the trick. It comes in a white tube to match the bronze tan tube.
The tube contains 150ml of the brown stuff for £7.99 (a pretty average price as far as I can see) which is plenty. The packaging (fairly attractive!) claims that it is a selftan shimmering lotion with an instant golden tint with a new ...

Three months I won this in a packet of prizes. Last week, with the good weather (though I like the weather, I don't want skin care so instead of hours of sunbathing and burnt skin, I opted for faking it) I decided I wasn't going to be the palest person on the planet and got to work. I normally use the Piz Buin fake tan and I'm never used mousse before. There's no category for the light mousse so I hope you don't mind me put it in the Medium section.

There are only two mousses. SoltanSelfTan No Streaks Mousse Light and SoltanSelfTan No Streaks Mousse Medium. Also there's sprays, wipes or lotion in the self-tan range of Boots.
As it's a Boots brand, you can only get it at Boots. It's on special offer so at the moment it's £4.65 instead being £6 ...
