Boots Soltan Self Tanning Mousse.

This mouse is of medium colour, or so it says on the bottle.

I decided to purchase a fake tan to bronze up before the summer and to top up my existing tan from a holiday in South Africa.

Not having much cash on me at the time, I needed a self tanner that not only made me look gorgeous and brown, but didn’t cost me a fortune.

After looking at millions of different bottles of the stuff (and being pounced on by annoying shop assistants to see if I needed help) I finally decided on boots soltan medium self-tanning mousse.

It seemed like a good choice because the previous year I bought a cream that was streaky and disgusting so I thought that this mousse would answer my prayers.

To apply this product, you must exfoliate and moisturise first (unless you don’t mind orange streaky legs), to get the best results. Then squirt the mousse onto your hand and rub on to the part of the body that you want brown.

The mousse was very easy to apply and I was particularly impressed with the way it glided on and absorbed into my skin very easily. Unfortunately, it is quite greasy and I was unable to dress for ages afterwards, and this is quite annoying (especially when you are about to go out).

A good tip for you self-tanners out there: - about half an hour after you use this stuff; rub your skin down with the inside of a sports sock. Apparently this stops the streaking (it really works – and you can get dressed quicker).

The bottle says it tans in hours and surely enough, it does. Unfortunately the tan is nowhere near medium; it is more of a golden tan. I love to be dark, so this was a huge disappointment for me. I had no streaks, there was no orange tinge, so I felt happy enough to bear my legs in a short skirt!

A major annoyance of the product is that there is a greasy film that lasts on your skin. Hours after I used the product my skin still felt greasy. My advice is to use this product when you have a day in, if you have the time, that is.

The advantages of this product are as follows: -
- No streaks, perfect for first time users
- Bargain price for a 150ml bottle of the stuff
- There are Boots stores everywhere, easy to get hold of
- Doesn’t stain the carpet – I dropped some on my cream carpet, didn’t clean it up and there are no stains so far!
- Tans in hours
- Lasts quite a few days
- Perfect for preparing for summer!
- Can be used on face
- Can lasts for ages

The disadvantages of this product are as follows: -
- Greasy formula means getting dressed is difficult
- Medium colour is actually quite pale
- Mousse is white in colour, so you don’t know what your applying
- Have to buy something to exfoliate first!

The product costs £6.99 from most Boots stores. For £6.99 this product is excellent quality, especially as the can lasts for ages.

My advice is if you cannot afford 15 odd quid and want a high quality product, then go for this.

How did you find out about the sock thing?? And how does it work? Just interested 'cos I plastered myself in fake tan yesterday and I've got a few streaks which I would like to avoid next time!

Great op - I recently had a bad experience with a false tan wipe but this sounds sooo much better - I particularly liked the sock tip!! I will definitely try that if I'm brave enough to buy a false tan again,lol.....Nicola:)
