I bought Boots Soltan Medium Self Tanning Lotion in a buy one get one free deal that was on Soltan products at the time. The product i got 'free' was the Boots Soltan Medium Self Tanning Mousse. In comparison to the mousse, and in fact to most self tans i have used, i found the lotion extremely successful.
It has the consistency of a moisturiser and is very easy to apply, rubs in with no problem and gives even coverage. The tan started to develop within 3 to 4 hours, so is perfect to put on just before you are getting ready to go out, unlike some fake tans which need applying the night before and eliminate the possibility of looking well bronzed on a spontaneous outing!
The colour it developed into was definitely noticeable but by no means orange. It was a pale bronze colour and looked as if you could have just come back from a week in the sun.
A great point about this fake tan is that it works well on the face, which minimises faffing around with different tubes, and means you don't have to spend as much.
The only negative i've recognised is that your skin stays quite sticky for about an hour after the lotion has been applied, so you have to do the dreaded 'walking around starkers' routine until your legs are deemed dry enough to touch the fabric of your sofa.
I would definitely recommend that everyone steers clear of the mousse variety of this product however, as the results were streaky, the development time was much longer and it is not as easy to apply.
Budget wise, Soltan is definitely a winner. Coming in at around £5, you get the healthy glow of having been on holiday without forking out the cash or risking skin damage.
I've tried numerous fake tans over the years from many different brands within differing price brackets. I found the Soltan fake tan better than many of the more upmarket tans i have tried, including Clinique and Clarins which are more than triple the price of the Soltan lotion.
I'll definitely be buying more.
