Three months I won this in a packet of prizes. Last week, with the good weather (though I like the weather, I don't want skin care so instead of hours of sunbathing and burnt skin, I opted for faking it) I decided I wasn't going to be the palest person on the planet and got to work. I normally use the Piz Buin fake tan and I'm never used mousse before. There's no category for the light mousse so I hope you don't mind me put it in the Medium section.
++Variety, the price and availability ++
There are only two mousses. Soltan Self Tan No Streaks Mousse Light and Soltan Self Tan No Streaks Mousse Medium. Also there's sprays, wipes or lotion in the self-tan range of Boots. As it's a Boots brand, you can only get it at Boots. It's on special offer so at the moment it's £4.65 instead being £6.99 and in the can contains 150ml. On the can, it says for superior results use Soltan Pre Self-Tan Exfoliator Exfoliator and Soltan Pre Self Tan Moisturiser. They are both at the moment £2.32. And if you want stain free hand, use Soltan Self Tan Applicator Mitt, which is now also, £2.32. Why does this free tan seem to be getting more and more expensive for better results??
++ The Packaging ++
It comes in a can, which is a bronzed colour with a see-through top. On the front, it has the Boots logo above the word SOLTAN that is over a golden sunburst or starburst depending on how you want to look at it. At the bottom, it has a smaller sun/star in silver and it says next to it Soltan Self Tan No Streaks Mousse. Under that, it says Step 3 in a box and then light and easy application. Hypoallergenic. And then in a yellow box with white lettering, which is very hard to read it says for a natural tanning look. On the back, it says in white letters Extra Benefits For a naturally tanned look at any time of the year or to prolong an existing tan. Suitable for the face. Tans in hours lasts for days.
Directions STEP 1 For a superior result use Soltan Pre Self Tan Exfoliator STEP 2 Apply Soltan Pre Self Tan Moisturiser and allow to dry STEP 3 Apply the mousse evenly. Use sparingly on elbows, knees and ankles. WASH HAND IMMEDIATELY AFTER USE For stain free hands, use Soltan Self Tan Applicator Mitt.
ADVICE For a deeper colour wait 2 - 3 hours then reapply. Avoid contact with eyes, hair and fabrics. This product will NOT protect you from the sun. Always use a high SPF product for sun exposure. (Well at least they didn't try to get me to buy Soltan sun lotion as well) Then it tells you that you should recycle the can when empty, keep it out of children's way and that it's EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE. Then it lists all the ingredients and then it says SOLVENT ABUSE CAN KILL INSTANTLY and then it says 150-ml e. The Boots Company Plc Nottingham England NG2 3AA

++ The product ++
I used my coconut exfoliator two days before and then moisturised for those two days and I was ready for my self-tan session. The mousse is a white colour on application but don't worry about that, most of self-tan lotions, mousses, sprays and wipes are. It's light and fluffy, which makes it easy apply to cover all the areas you want tan. The smell is alright. Not bad compared to some of them I've use and the smell does tend to stay on the skin for a one day and then starts to fade. The directions on the can are pretty vague for my liking so if this is your first attempt with a self-tan product, you'd be a bit lost. As it doesn't say how long you're meant to put your clothes back on nor on how long you're going to have to wait for the tan to develop. I gave it an hour and a half and put my clothes back on and went to bed. The following morning Had a look at myself in the mirror wasn't that pleased with the effects on the tanning mousse. It was extremely light. So I decided to try again and apply another layer of the mousse. After 4 hours, the tan had developed and looked more like what I wanted it to look like after the first attempt. I guess the medium product would have been better. After 2 more layer of the mousse, I had a beautiful even tan. It's very painstaking method of doing a self-tan but gives you more control on how dark you go. Also the light mousse I guess is better for tanning your face because most self tanning products have a separate one for the face but this one, you can use all over your body.
++ How long does it last? ++ Well, I did it on a Monday and now it's Monday again and it's nearly gone. Just a light brown left and slightly patchy. I do take a lot of showers and baths so maybe it might last a bit longer than that but I doubt it.
++ Overall Comments ++ Although it's a slow process with this mousse, it leaves you with the desired effect. A nice tan with no streaks. Perfect for the weather we just had. I don't look out of place but I do look like I've had a nice weekend away. One bad point though, I didn't like the way Boots kept prompting you to buy their other products through the directions on the can. It's annoying. Also it's a bit expensive if you have to apply 4 times to get the colour you want but as I didn't buy it, I'm very pleased with the overall outcome.
Advantages: Easy to apply, very nearly foolproof, nice colour Disadvantages: Not everyone will like the nutty smell
...and is available in most boots or via the wellbeing boots website. One lovely brown metallic canister (150ml) lasts me about 5-6 applications. By application I mean my legs (calves down onto feet) , both arms, shoulders, neck and face.
A golf ball size amount of the mouse will do one leg. Just apply in downwards stroking movements. Its really easy. But beware, when you squirt out the mouse remember its going to expand, so don’t squirt out too much.
... ...to my face, but the light version of moose is really subtle, and gave me a healthy glow, and meant my face didn’t stand out when compared to the tan on my neck. The product has a lovely nutty smell, but I appreciate that not everyone will like the scent. But its not too strong or overpowering, so don’t worry.
Because the product is a moose, it is moisturising, and you don’t necessarily need to apply body lotion/moisturiser before hand apart from ...

Advantages: natural looking tan, easy to apply Disadvantages: the rest of my body needed more coats than my arms
...weekends ago I was in Boots and picked up my starter kit that contained 50ml each of Pre Self-Tan Exfoliator, Moisturiser and a can of mousse. I applied the tan last Wednesday night following a couple of days of exfoliating, even managing to contort myself to reach my back. I was quite impressed with the results however, with no streaks and a light golden colour, however, my arms were darker than the rest of my body. Never mind, I just gave the rest ... ...after that. In fact, I was at a cashline at the weekend and this bloke asked me if he had missed the sun somewhere!
The Packaging
My pack came in a plastic box containing the three tubes, however, I shall just describe the mousse can as that is what this op is supposed to be about after all. The can itself is copper in colour with a cream lid. At the top it says “Boots” in purple writing and below this it says “Soltan” in black writing with a cream ...

Advantages: Easy to control with no scary Tango experiences Disadvantages: Only for the faint-hearted!
...conquest, so to speak, is Boots Soltan Self-tan mousse in Light. Since I am particularly pale, and in varying degrees to make matters worse, the main problem I am faced with when using self-tan products is that they invariably look far too dark to look natural. Also, without a perfect application, which I hasten to add is not the easiest of things to achieve, any bits that I miss stick out like a sore thumb. Bearing this in mind when I went to select ... ...that promised a lighter effect rather than a deeper colour. I decided on the Soltan mousse, because it was on an offer saving £2.34, but the normal price will be £6.99, which seems a little steep compared to other brands, but it all depends on what you’re willing to pay.
The instructions advise that you should exfoliate first, but that’s common to all self-tans, so be prepared to scrub up! On application, the mousse is white, which worried me a ...

Advantages: gives you a healthy look, doesn't smell Disadvantages: none
...this product last year from Boots the Chemist as I used to work across the road from there and was always on the lookout for new products.
I have tried many false tans, starting with the cheapest going right upto the dearest.
This Self-Tan Mousse comes in the shade Fair/Medium, I don't know if you can get a darker one or not, I bought this one as Iam very pale skinned.
It cost me something like £7/9.00, I think.
You get rather a lot in a 150ml ... ...would buy. It comes in a bright yellow bottle with a white nozzle for the foam to come out.
I find it's best to exfoliate my skin first, this means buying some exfoliator like Aapri and rubbing all the dead skin away. Then I moisturise my skin and apply the self-tan Mousse afterwards.
Everybody has a different way of doing it, some people leave the skin wet, which I'm sure somebody told me not to do.
The Mousse comes out in a light brown colour ...

Advantages: starter kit includes exfoliater, moisturiser & tanning lotion Disadvantages: mousse is white to begin with so difficult to se when you apply it and a bit smelly!
...naturally, I decided to try Boots Soltan starter kit.
The kit includes a 50ml tube of exfoliater, moisturiser and a can of tanning mousse.I found that the first two treatments left my skin lovely and soft and the mousse was relatively easy to apply, although I would recommend buying an applicator mitt as it helps ensure even coverage and stops your fingers from getting stained. The only drawbacks I found were that the mousse is white and therefore ... ...was a bit wiffy when it started to develop.
After a couple of hours my skin had developed a lovely light golden glow and no streaky bits or orange hues in sight! It lasted a couple of days and I've since topped it up again.
I don't know if the final colour would suit darker skin tones but for fair skinned people like me it gives you the chance to glow without any red bits! ...

BootsSoltanSelfTanning Mousse.
This mouse is of medium colour, or so it says on the bottle.
I decided to purchase a fake tan to bronze up before the summer and to top up my existing tan from a holiday in South Africa.
Not having much cash on me at the time, I needed a self tanner that not only made me look gorgeous and brown, but didn’t cost me a fortune.
After looking at millions of different bottles of the stuff (and being pounced on by annoying shop assistants to see if I needed help) I finally decided on bootssoltanmediumself-tanning mousse.
It seemed like a good choice because the previous year I bought a cream that was streaky and disgusting so I thought that this mousse would answer my prayers.
To apply this product, you must exfoliate and moisturise first (unless you don’t mind orange streaky ...
