Boots Tea Tree + Witch Hazel Night Treatment Gel is one of the few skincare products that have wowed me and, believe me, I've tried many. With blackhead-ridden combination skin I spend a lot of time desperately scouring the skincare aisles of Boots for something that will keep my problem skin under control.
It was during one period of extreme desperation (you know it's bad when your usually very tactful boyfriend points out that your skin's looking rather bumpy) that I came across this little beauty. My cheeks were covered in whiteheads and my forehead was full of little mini-pimples, so it should have been rather obvious that one or more of my current skincare products wasn't doing its job. Still, I was loath to replace my regular cleanser, toner or moisturiser. Drawn to the Boots Tea Tree + Witch Hazel display as I somehow didn't remember seeing it before, I scanned the items on offer.
All the products in this range are light green in colour and bear similar labels with a characteristic green and blue flower logo. No glitz and glamour, just the basic info on the product without the typical science babble. In a way, the ingredients sell themselves. Tea tree oil and witch hazel are well known for their use in skincare, particularly that for acne-prone skin. Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic and witch hazel extract has astringent properties and is generally good for soothing superficial skin ailments.
The night treatment gel contains 20% witch hazel extract and 0.2% tea tree oil - well done Boots for actually advertising how much of the good stuff goes into the product! It promises to work intensively while you sleep, help fight and prevent spots, and lightly moisturise your skin without blocking pores. This appealed to me as my night-time skincare regime was a bit lax at the time. My normal moisturiser left my skin feeling really greasy in the morning if I used it before going to bed, so I'd often only cleanse my face in the morning. Not generally recommended for problem skin!
This was the first time I'd tried a Boots own product, so I was a little bit apprehensive about straying from my usual name brand. Still, at £2.79 for a 75ml tube it seemed like good value and definitely worth giving a shot. I'm glad I did! That night I washed my face, dried it and opened the tube with eager anticipation.
The light green gel smells fresh and planty, which I find very pleasant. For those of you that don't like the smell of tea tree oil, I can't make it out at all. It has an easy to apply texture that doesn't drip off your fingers, but is quick to spread across the face. When you apply it your skin takes on a slightly wet appearance, which disappears as it dries to leave a matte finish that looks perfectly natural. It takes a couple of minutes to fully dry, and at this point my skin can feel a little bit tight. The first time I used it, this worried me a bit as I wasn't sure my skin would be moisturised enough. 15 minutes later, though, my skin felt smooth and soft and I went to sleep rather pleased with my new purchase.
To my extreme delight, the next morning my face still felt smooth and soft - not greasy at all! My nose was a little oily, but it would take a miracle to prevent that. This night treatment gel was miracle enough, and got me back into cleansing my face both morning and night. After using it for a week, my skin tone looked noticably more even and red marks from receding breakouts were disappearing.
Although it took slightly harsher methods to get rid of my stubborn whiteheads, Boots Tea Tree + Witch Hazel Night Treatment Gel deserves the credit for keeping them from reappearing. Also, after about a month of using it I'd stopped getting mini-pimples on my forehead, and now, about three months later, I don't seem to be getting any inflamed acne at all (touch wood). I still have blackheads, but my skin is now smoother and healthier-looking than it has been in years. (TIP - Sometimes I also use it as a daytime treatment on problem areas as it absorbs and blends in better than my standard witch hazel gel.)
As far as value is concerned, I'd say a tube will last about 3 months, and regular 2 for £5 offers on this range make it even better value for money. It's worth saying here that the tube sometimes has a tendency to splutter, sending a blob of gel flying onto a random bathroom surface. This is annoying and wasteful, but can be avoided by giving the tube a good downwards shake before use (think stubborn ketchup).
Well, by now it should be clear that I love this product. I'll finish by saying that I'd recommend it for anyone who suffers from problem skin. It probably won't cure acne entirely on its own, but for me it has made a big difference and is a great preventative.
PS - Since I started using this, I have seen the light re my skincare regime and replaced a number of products for ones that work better. :-)
PPS - For some reason Ciao wants me to rate this as a hair care product?! Please ignore this glitch.
Advantages: Works well, helps get rid of spots, moisturises, kind to skin Disadvantages: None
Boots Tea Tree + Witch Hazel Night Treatment Gel is a non-greasy gel which works while you sleep to help fight spots. It's available in Boots stores or on their website and costs £2.79 for a 75ml tube.
Boots say this non-greasy night treatment gel contains antibacterial Tea Tree Oil and skin calming Witch Hazel which help keep your skin clear and healthy. It works intensively while you sleep to fight spot causing bacteria and lightly moisturise ... ...you just need to smooth it onto your skin with clean fingers and blend in. For best results it should be used every evening after cleansing.
The gel is quite runny, not like most gels I've come across which are generally thicker in consistency. It comes in a plastic tube with a flip-top lid but the hole it comes out of is quite large, so it can sometimes be difficult not to get too much out because of the consistency of the gel.
The gel goes on ...

I use Boots Tea Tree and Witch Hazel cleanser on my face every night. I have tried many others over the years but always come back to this one. I have written a review about it if you are interested.
Anyway a while ago I was in Boots and had a voucher for £1 off any item in the Boots Tea Tree and Witch Hazel range. When I looked the items were already on offer at 2 for £5 so I chose a bottle of my favourite cleanser and decided to try the Night ... ...top lid. It has the Boots logo on the top and the words Tea Tree and Witch Hazel written vertically down the side – as with the rest of the range. The design of this range in pale blue and green makes everything look fresh, clean and appealing.
The details on the tube tell us that the gel ‘works intensively while you sleep and helps prevent and fight spots’. I was really pleased to find this gel as, after being so impressed with the cleanser, I ...

...the skin care section in boots looking for help. I didn't want anything full of harsh chemicals, so just by random chance, I picked up a night treatment gel. It was fairly inexpensive at £2.99 per bottle. I went home feeling a little more content.

It is akward to sleep with this stuff on your face. It doesn't dry completely, so it will rub off onto your pillow, if you're so inclined to sleep on your stomach. It wont stain anything though, unlike benzoyl peroxide (nasty stuff).
The next day, there was noticeable improvement. It washed off easily with just plain water. My skin was smooth, soft, and noticeably clearer. ...

...are good at fighting spots. Boots do a whole range of tea tree and witch hazel stuff but this the only one I have tried so far. It cost £2.79
It comes in a squeezy tube and the idea is you put it on at night after cleansing and it's supposed to treat spots.
At first contact with the skin the gel kinda melts and to be honest I wasn't holding out much hope. After applying to my face I was quite surprised. It went on smoothly and wasn't at all sticky ...

Advantages: cheap, easy and it works Disadvantages: none
Well the other night was my night set aside to pamper myself. Unfortunately this month I am a little bit broke (having been off sick from work the month before so my bonus was not up to its usual standards) so I had to look for the cheaper way to get a facial. And thanks to Boots I found it.
For £2.99 I got the Boots Mini Facial Kit with TeaTree and WitchHazel. For £2.99 you get a sachet of exfoliating face wash, face mask and nighttreatmentgel along with instructions on how to get the best results. This is all contained in a rectangular white box with green writing on the sides telling us it is TeaTree and WitchHazel. As I had this to the product listing it is fairly new, in fact I believe it is a whole new TeaTree and WitchHazel range from Boots as there are other products in similar style packaging and I have never seen ...
