HOW MUCH DID IT COST?
After about 10 - 15 minutes of reading many different product descriptions and prices, in my local Boots store; I discovered the Boots- Tea Tree and Witch Hazel - Peel off face mask. WHY DID I BUY IT?
I am not sure if this just applies to me, but I have had terrible problems with my skin this summer. The constant changes in the weather have meant that in one instance I am sweltering hot, and peeling off the layers. Then the next moment, I am having to pile on the moisturiser, to protect my skin from all the harsh weather conditions again.
A couple of weeks ago, I finally decided that I'd had enough and it was time to take some drastic action on the hideous blemishes that had started to appear at random on my face. Although, I routinely use a facial wash and face cleanser on a daily basis; nothing has seemed to work effectively over the past few months. Hence, I decided to take a trip to my local Boots store, to see what new miracle skin cures I could find.
HOW MUCH DID IT COST?
After about 10 - 15 minutes of reading many different product descriptions and prices, in my local Boots store; I discovered the Boots- Tea Tree and Witch Hazel - Peel off face mask. There are two options for you to choose from. You can buy a single uses sachet for just 99p or you can get a 50ml squeezy tube bottle for just £2.99. As I don't believe that you can really gain the full benefit from any sort of facial treatment by just using it once, I chose the 50ml bottle.
APPEARANCE AND PRESENTATION
The container has a hard plastic lid, which allows it to stand up easily without taking up too much space in the bathroom. The rest of the tube is very flexible, to allow you to easily squeeze its content out in a controlled manner without making a mess. The majority of the tube is transparent, which is really handy because you can make sure you are really getting your money's worth when you purchase it in the shop. I was pleasantly surprised when I first opened the cap, because the fragrance is fairly light and refreshing. I have nearly knocked myself out in the past, by being curious as to what something smells like.
MY FIRST EXPERIENCE
Due to my sensitive skin, I have always tried to stick to the things that I know wont irritate my skin. Hence, I have been using the same face wash, skin cleanser and clay based masks for several years now. However, the idea of using a peel off mask has always intrigued me, to know what it feels like.
As a first time user I was a little surprised, when I started to apply it to my face because it is a lot thicker than the masks I have used in the past and it felt rather like Vaseline. It was also colder than I expected. Once I had completed cover my face in a thin layer of about 1mm thick (avoiding the usual bits like eyes, hair and mouth as described on the bottle); I looked in the mirror and my face was shining like some sort of wax doll! Anyway, I then decided to go and have a lay down and listened to some music, whilst waiting for it to dry. For me, this is the only way that I can prevent myself from constantly moving my face around and resist the temptation to prod the mask with my fingers before it is done. For those of you who prefer to relax in the bath with a facial treatment on, I think it is important to mention at this point that this product may not be for you; because it clearly states on the container that it will not dry if used in the bath.
When the mask had dried, my face felt quite tight and looked like it had been wrapped in cling film. Finally, it was time to start the fun part, peeling the mask off. Now, this is where I think the instructions on the bottle are somewhat lacking in detail; as there is no real indication as to how this should be done. Thus, on my first attempt I tried to slide my fingers around the edge of the mask, to literally try and peel off a layer like and orange. However, I have found that this method wastes a lot of unnecessary time, because the mask is simply too thin when it sets. Hence, I have taken to "pulling faces" in the mirror until the mask bubbles around the mouth and nose area. This allows it to be easily peeled off backwards in both directions, from the centre of your face. (At this point, I am definitely interested to know how other people manage this task at home, in a much more "lady-like" manner!)
Once the mask has been peeled off, I always find that some very thin bits remain stuck to the skin around the edges of where the mask was spread. These are easily removed by gently washing the skin with warm water (as mention on the container). The end result is that your skin has that nice fresh, slightly tingly clean feeling and it is also fairly soft to the touch.
WHAT IS THE PROLONGED EFFECT ON YOUR SKIN?
Two or three days after using this mask, all the spots that had been hiding away under my skin decided to rear their ugly heads. I luckily was not alarmed by this; because I have been pre-warned that a good facial mask will bring out all the blemishes first, before it can fully get to work on healing them.
I have now been using this mask for a couple of weeks now and my skin has settled down and is really getting back under control. I have not had any adverse allergic reactions to this product, which is always a bonus, because I am usually allergic to most new things that I try on my face.
I am impressed by how long it has lasted me. From comparing the original price of the tube to the individual sachets, I only expected to get about 6-8 treatments out of it. However, after about 8 masks, I still have over half of the tubes content left.
CONCLUSION
I would certainly recommend this mask to anyone who can spare at least 10-15 minutes each week, as it is a very good product to take care of your skin. As mentioned above, it is also good value for money because it last such a long time and is reasonably priced.
I feel this mask is also a good way to simply pamper yourself, because if you are anything like me and have a busy lifestyle (juggling work, study and home life); it is nice to have something to take your mind off all the general pressures of the day sometimes. Plus, if you know you look good, you also tend to feel good too and it helps increase your self confidence.
Well that is all I have to say on the subject for now. I will let you know if there are any new developments, as I continue to use it.
Advantages: Inexpensive, works well to unclog pores Disadvantages: Slightly drying
...I have recently been using Boots Tea Tree & Witch Hazel peel off face mask. The main reason that I bought it, to be honest, was that I am currently on a tight budget, and at £2.99 for 50ml, it seemed good value. I spotted it on the shelf in a no-nonsense but attractive clear plastic tube with a light green and blue motif, with "tea tree" and "witch hazel" written clearly down one side.
I was familiar with both of these ingredients. Tea tree oil ... ...for centuries in traditional medicines. Likewise, witch hazel, an extract of the shrub, is an old-fashioned astringent. On inspecting the back of the tube, I discovered that the mask contained 0.2% tea tree oil and 10% distilled witch hazel, so I expected it to be quite astringent - maybe too much - but decided that it still seemed promising. The tube stated that it "deep cleans and tightens pores, and helps remove blackheads" - exactly what I was ...

Advantages: It made my skin feel better, good price Disadvantages: None provinding you don't use too much
I have been using the Boots Tea Tree and Witch Hazel Cleansing and Toning Lotion for years now and haven’t found anything to match it. I have written a review on it if you are interested.
Anyway recently I was in my local branch of Boots and noticed that there was an offer on all the Tea Tree and Witch Hazel range where, if you bought three items, you would get the cheapest one free. I needed a pack of facial wipes to put in my vanity case and another ... ...to a tube of face mask gel as my freebie. The price is normally £2.93 for a tube containing 50ml of gel although there is almost always an offer of some sort on this range.
Strangely since I began eating a low fat and low sugar diet about 3 months ago I have had a lot of spots on my face. You would think that it would be the other way round and the spots would go with the high fat, high sugar diet wouldn’t you? Trust me to be awkward!
The Tea Tree ...

Advantages: cheap! clears spots! Disadvantages: can't use in the bath as timesaver.
...I bought this at boots for £2.99 which seemed fairly reasonable as it would last a few months and £2.99 isn't much money to lose if it turned out not to be very good! I got home and removed my make-up, cleaned my face and dried it thoroughly before applying a thin coat of the gel to my face. It was very cold and quite refreshing! I waited 15 minutes for it to dry (it says wait between 10-15 minutes) before peeling it off. My face felt tight, and ... ...I was quite impressed. You are only meant to use it occassionaly but as my skin was so bad I used it for about four days in a row and it seemed to make my spots go quicker than they usually would, as well as making my skin look healthier and giving it more of a glow! (I however would not recommend you go against the recommended use on the back of the package in case of long term damage to your skin-i.e. more wrinkles!) I was especially happy about ...

Advantages: Smells nice, easy to use, good value for money Disadvantages: Brings out any nasties lurking under your skin
...when I came across a Boots own range that I hadn't noticed before. This was the Tea Tree + Witch Hazel range, which has a recurring theme of see-through tubes of pale green products with a green and blue flower logo on the front. The look was fresh and made me stop and investigate further...well, that and my familiarity with the benefits of both tea tree (antibacterial) and witch hazel (astringent and good for calming most superficial skin ailments).
... ...after only a week was doing a good job of evening out my skin tone. Unfortunately, it didn't really seem up for the challenge of ridding me of my whiteheads. I remembered seeing a 2 for £5 offer on the Tea Tree + Witch Hazel range, so I did a bit of research on Ciao and decided to try out a couple more of the products in the range. One of these was the Peel-Off Face Mask.
Normally it's £2.99 for a 50ml squeezy tubeful. The blurb on the back promises ...

Boots Tea Tree + Witch Hazel Peel Off Face Mask is a deep cleaning mask with antibacterial Tea Tree Oil and skin calming Witch Hazel. It's available from Boots stores or online at boots.com at a price of £2.99 for a 50ml tube.
Boots say this peel off mask is supposed to keep your skin clear and healthy by grabbing dirt and lifting it out of your pores, helping to remove blackheads whilst tightening the pores to help prevent future breakouts.
To ... ...evenly over your face, avoiding the eye area, leave it to dry for 10 to 15 minutes, then peel it off and rinse your face with warm water to get rid of any remaining residue. You need to use it somewhere that isn't steamy or it won't dry, so for instance you can't use while you're in the bath.
The mask is a very gloopy, gooey, sticky green gel, so I'd advise that you turn a tap on before you start applying it so that you can rinse it off your fingers ...
