I love watching ads, I find them a clever art expression, all of them have obviously the mission of making people want the item or service in question, but although the purpose is the same for them all they come in all sorts of shapes with different messages, some of them leave us scratching our heads, others are very sillly, some of them are an explosion of catching musics and amazing special effects we even forget what they are actually advertising!!!
This Boots ad shows different scenarios - one at the time. While they have the typical Boots funny, catchy light hearted music on, a voice anticipates that Boots is cutting lots of prices on their products. At first you see an old couple attempting a kiss while sitting comfortably on a couch and a hand coming from no-where prices with a machine the lip of the gentleman with a red label making a click sound (possibly hinting at discounts on lip balms, I hope not cold sore remedies!!), secondly a woman sitting at her hairdressers experiences the same lots of clicking sounds and then she reveals lots of red stickers on her hair (possibly hinting at discounts on hair products). Same goes for a girl on a swing who gets them in her kness (possibly referring to plasters). Last of them, but definitely not least catchy, which is the one that really bent me in two first time I saw it… man and a woman in bed at night, one clicking sound... the man sits on his bed looking all surprised turns the lights on and lifts the sheets looking down on himself, possibly at a red tag which looks like has landed you know where.. (in my opinion hinting at discounted condoms!!!).
Now the ad is nothing special in itself, it has no special photography, no special music, it shows ordinary people doing ordinary things in life, the message they seem to want to send across is that Boots understands ordinary people and wants to cut prices in order to be more affordable and that they do offer a variety of products of everyday life, which means lots of people can take advantage of it. Risking the fact that this message could be rather boring they put a funny hint at the end which makes the whole experience of watching it rather light hearted.
Now, to be on the safe side there are two versions of this ad, during the daytime you only hear the click and the man turns the lights and that is it. During the evening instead you see the long version where he lifts the sheets to see what went on.
MY OPINION ********** Although I find this positive I still think that kids of a certain age do of course know what this last clip suggests, I suppose that although they do not want to make it that obvious still the message is there. In my opinion if what they really want to do is to protect kids from sexual messages they should definitely omit the whole of the last section and keep it for the evening and adult viewing only. When I was little girl I might not have understood the scene but children are so clever nowadays and so bombarded with sexual messages from TV, songs, magazines, don't know whether that really makes that much of a difference in the first place!!
I would recommend you buying from them but only because they have discounts on, not because of their ad!!
Advantages: offers good Disadvantages: customer service

I used to like Boots, but I'm going off them fast, and until I get a proper apology, I'm not going back.
I forgot to mention I tried to e-mail them, but the address was unrecognisable and came back!
I won't be. ...

Advantages: Puts across the message Disadvantages: Fake Staff!
...or not it makes all Boots staff look like complete nitwits!
So anyways I'm trying to think of good points to this ad campaign, and so far I've come up with the fact that it does actually put across the fact that you actually get soem freebies whilst shopping there (and that can't be a bad thing can it?) ...
