Boots was founded in Nottingham in 1849 by a gentleman called John Boot, hence the name and turned into a chain by his son Jesse. Boots stores are very easy to spot and recognize on the high street. They include a big blue sign with Boots written on it in cursive white writing. The sign was actually based on a design made by one of Jesse's sign writers in the 1870's.

Like I said, Boots were primarily known for their pharmacy which still exists to this day. They are generally at the back of each store and offer a prescription service. I have found that they always have the medicine you need on hand and will package it up for you within 15 minutes which is not a bad wait time at all. They always have a qualified pharmacist on staff to answer any questions you may have. They now offer a free repeat prescription service where the drugs are sent straight to them from the doctors so saving you time and effort.
Boots has now diversified quite a bit from the old days to offer lots more services such as health/beauty, Boots Opticians, one-hour photo processing to name but a few. In fact I believe Boots are great for health and beauty supplies and this is where I generally get most of my products. The great thing is that they sell name brands of products that are well known and respected in the beauty market and include so many things you want to buy. In fact, I sometimes go into Boots just to browse at the products and get lots of different ideas of things that I would like to buy. They have a big section of make up counters/cases where lots of different products are sold such as Maybelline, Revlon etc. Here they stock pretty much the whole range where you can try the testers and then buy what you like.
Boots also do their own range of make up/cream called No.7. Just this last year their No7 Protect and Perfect Beauty Serum had women flocking to their stores to purchase it and they sold out because the benefits were so highly regarded. The No 7 range also includes make up, etc which I have to say is pretty good. I don't use it all the time but now and again I do and it is very well priced.
They always have great offers on in store too such as buy two, get the third free etc. These are generally on products that you need and use daily such as face creams etc so whenever they do run this promotion it is really worthwhile because you can stock up and it's cheaper for you in the long run.
They do some great beauty gifts, especially around Christmas time where there are lots of sets you can buy, both for men and women that include perfumes and lotions etc all wrapped in nice gift bags or boxes.
I would say that you can pretty much find anything you want in store, from vitamins, perfumes, electrical items to shampoo's, tights, hair accessories etc. They also do a range of healthy eating foods as well such as sandwiches; fruit etc with the nutritional information labeled on the front to promote a healthy awareness.
Boots have a customer loyalty card called the Advantage card. They actually market it as "The UK's most rewarding loyalty card" and I have to say I find it very good. I have been a member for years now and enjoy the benefits to this day. For every pound spent you collect 4 loyalty points. Each point then equates to 1 penny so obviously it does take time for them to add up but they often offer extra points when you buy a certain product which can help to boost your total. So for example if you have 499 points you can buy something that is priced at £4.99. I believe you can buy any product in the store you wish with your Advantage card points but you have to have enough points to cover the cost, you cannot for example try and buy something for £5.01 with only 499 points, even if you substitute the rest for cash. If you only buy something for £2.99 you will then have 200 points left on your card.
Apparently the Boots Advantage card is Europe's largest loyalty scheme with over 15 million cardholders. I basically view it as free money in a way. I buy all my repeat products in Boots such as toothpaste, deodorant etc and just keep on collecting the points. Boots offer a number of clubs too that people can join and then get the benefit of money off on products that relate to that club. For example for any mums or mothers to be out there they offer a parenting club where you not only get some helpful advice but also money back or points on items such a nappies etc. They run a health club too which gives a discount of those types of products to members. Boots is a good quality store with great products, knowledgeable and helpful (sell most of the time) staff and a credit to the British high street!
Advantages: Good Customer service when it goes wrong Disadvantages: When it goes wrong it really goes wrong. Expensive
...boots. I thought that because Boots is such a big brand, that it would be fine. I'll set the scene. We had a big social event at and I took loads of great pictures (inc. the board looking sheepish). I decided to get the two rolls of film on a picture CD so we could could put them on the Company website. I took them into Boots on Thursday 1st March and was told that they would take three days, which was longer than I expected but because of the relative ... ...got a call back from Boots saying that they had found my photos, when I went to get them (queuing for 20 minutes) I found they had sent back the pictures of squirrels and had ignored the form I had filled out. It's now May and still no word (although I have been assured that they will continue looking for them for the next year-which does nto bode well) It does mainly seem to be the imcompetence of the processing lab to blame as the staff at Boots ...

Advantages: Free upload of film to internet Disadvantages: They lose your film
...roll of APS film to Boots for next day development (thankfully, the other film I took on my trip was still in my camera). Included in their normal developing service is a free upload of the film to Bootsphoto.com, where you can send the pics and share them to your friends. For the record, this is the only reason that Boots has an edge on its competition, despite their absolute incompetence as a photo developer. The next day, I turned up to Boots ... ...day, I go down to Boots to see if anything is changed. Nothing has. They put their hands up in the air and say they will call. Meanwhile, in their open photo lab behind the counter, a man in his late 40's is sitting in a chair. Doing nothing. Not wearing a lab coat. Just ingratiatingly picking his nose and rubbing his findings on his upper lip. He does this repetitively for at least 2 minutes and I am reminded of aged psychologically disturbed apes ...

Went on a wet camping trip abroad so chose 2 identical disposable cameras. I wanted the option of sharing the photos with friends over the internet so I opted to have them on CD as well, but as the price wasn't great, hence I decided to wait 3 days. On picking up the photos (and waiting in a 20min queue) I was shocked to find one of them cost £1 more than the other, even though they were same size, same amount of photos, and no real difference between ... ...the manager and waiting much longer, she couldn't change it...
Now I have the photos and the CDs which are great. I'm surprised at how good quality they are even with some of the night shots and after going through a hurricane! I would like to upload them onto a website, but I have to use their program and it looks like I'd need to 'buy' them again in order for anyone using another computer to view them.... I can't help feeling a little conned, ...

Advantages: 3 for 2 - GREAT BARGAINS!! Disadvantages: to difficult to chose from the range.
...focus on my op on Boots stuff, Thanks xx
Well, I am probably the most organised member of my family. I have bought everyones Christmas present and they are all wrapped and hidden. The only activity I have left to do now is write out Christmas cards - but there is plenty of time for that! The thing I do not believe has plenty of time to do is of course buy presents! People have no one but themselves to blame when they are running around stressfully ... ...As I have mentioned before, Boots have got a Christmas 3 for 2 mega deal which is basically the main reason I love to shop there for presents! The best thing to do, I think, is to purchase 3 items at the same price then get one free. I try to do that so you are not wasting any money and you get the best deal. So basically I bought 3 things at £10 and got one free, bought 3 things at round about £5 and got one free! This would usually be at the price ...

Advantages: can get them done in an hour (so can other places) Disadvantages: price, quality of photo's
...I took them to Boots to have them developed on the hour processing. They were expensive, but for a special occasion as this, I didn't mind.
When I got them back, I was very dissapointed as they were very dark and some of the colours didn't seem true. I complained and they re-developed them free of charge. They were a bit better but still dark.
Recently, I wanted something developing quickly and with reservations, I put them into Boots and they ... ...found a couple of people who have used the quick service and have not been happy with the finished results.
I would be interested to know if any other members have had this problem, or if their normal 24hr/next day/2 day service results are affected with this problem.
Next time I will used Snappy Snaps. ...

Advantages: Quick and Easy Self Service - Quality - Professional Disadvantages: Not the cheapest
I have a digital camera, and keep my photos on my computer's hard-drive, but occasionally I like to get better and more interesting pictures printed, it just seems so much more natural to hold a real photo than look at it on the screen, plus it's better for showing them to people when a computer or TV isn't available, or giving photos to people who don't have a computer or DVD player. I recently therefore took a batch of my digital photos to Boots to get them printed.
Boots now have self service machines for digital photos, which allow either instant, 1 hour or 24 hour printing from various sources. This can be a memory card, a photo CD, or Infra-Red direct from a compatible phone or camera. This has 2 benefits over the old over the counter method, firstly you can keep the media that the photos are on, very useful if it's your only ...
Advantages: superb quality Disadvantages: not the cheapest
Photo processing you'll probably fall into one of two catergories
1-the consumers who go for the cheapest, complain about the quality spend time trying to get them corrected or having to have them reprinted elsewhere possibly at extra cost thus wiping out the original amount they tryed to save in the beginning.
2-the consumer who goes for quality, they take a little more time on deciding where to go, they may read reviews in magazines,on the internet or take advice on the experiences of friends and family.
You see photographic developing deals with peoples treasured memories and can be an emotional process so you need to go to a company that views the process in the same and that place is BOOTS.
Now why do i think Boots is the best place to go for photo developing,
point 1- All the boots minilabs are digital this means ...
Advantages: Competative prices, good loyalty scheme. Disadvantages: Inconsistent level of quality of finished prints
I have to say that I totally agree with other comments. The quality of your prints from Boots depends entirely on who is working the day you go in. I have had perfect prints and on one occasion I had 6 films printed and every single one was printed back to front. so any writing was backwards, people and objects were in opposite places. These films happened to be from a graduation day and as you can well imagine were important to the family. Thankfully after hefty words with the manager, the photos were reprinted correctly and all money was refunded. On another occasion, a machine was being fixed so they said that my 1 hour processing would take 2 hrs yet I was still charged the same.
What does the in house training consist of in this store? I went there because their prices were reasonable compared to other processors such as Max ...
