I have had a nightmare with boots. I thought that because Boots is such a big brand, that it would be fine.

I'll set the scene. We had a big social event at and I took loads of great pictures (inc. the board looking sheepish). I decided to get the two rolls of film on a picture CD so we could could put them on the Company website. I took them into Boots on Thursday 1st March and was told that they would take three days, which was longer than I expected but because of the relative newness of this type of thing I went along with it. For £9.99 per film I expected good prompt service.

Friday I got a call saying they had only sent one film off and so one would be ready Monday and the 2nd one on Tuesday-an inconvenience that I could live with. Monday I found out it hadn't arrived but would be back on Tuesday. I went back on Tuesday to collect both films and after queuing for 30 minutes I discovered that the first had appeared but the second one hadn't. They assured me that it would come the next day (Wed 7th).

The photo CD was of reasonable quality (I know other people had problems with needing to download software but I none of these problems). The only problem was that at 6x4" jpeg resolution the pictures looked quite grainy on less powerful computers, but at least it was very easy to upload to website.

The next day I went to collect my final film and was given them for free only to find that instead of my pictures, I had got someone's photos of squirrels. The staff were very apologetic and helpful and asked me to fill out a form to help them identify the photos. A few days later I got a call back from Boots saying that they had found my photos, when I went to get them (queuing for 20 minutes) I found they had sent back the pictures of squirrels and had ignored the form I had filled out. It's now May and still no word (although I have been assured that they will continue looking for them for the next year-which does nto bode well)

It does mainly seem to be the imcompetence of the processing lab to blame as the staff at Boots have been very helpful and patient (although they aren't totally blameless). Since then I've found out that other places do digital CDs (so if anyone has used them please write an opinion/email me). For normal photos I've used Bonus/triple print with no problems (in fact I thoroughly endorse them and people who have written about them agree with me-see the relevant section).

I will let you know if I get my photos back!

A good review of personal experience, I work (all be it part time) for Boots Photo and whilst it would be inproper for me to defend boots I can say that I very much hope things have changed. As you said, many of the problems (not all) related to the Main Kodak Lab, as an employee that sees all these problems I couldn't agree with you more - they can be useless not sending stuff back on time, lost or mixed up orders - you would think Kodak would be good but no. Kodak do in fact service many photoshops (Including places such as Jessops etc) for work that can't be done in store (Photogifts, Slides, Kodak CD's etc) but unfortunatly also provide backup for standard processing on some services (i.e. 3 day). Good news is that (at least where I work) the vast majority of the work is done in store, using Fuji Paper and minilab and photos are all checked and ajusted if needed. I sincerley hope that the quality has improved and that the company has learnt from its mistakes. Re. Photo cd's - these are done in store and can be done on the 1HR service, I would admit that the resoloution isn't amazing but it is reasonably ok. With regards to missing prints I hope boots have improved on this too - where I work there is now a much better Automated system for filling out dockets (typed) so none of the problems with handwriting and misrouting etc (hopefully) that seemed to cause the problems before. Point of my comment really, other than to say that I agree it was poor service is that the problems you had weren't unique but from my perspective are much less common now, obviously as I say I only do it part time and in one store. *posting personally and not on behalf of boots.
