I just bought this toy for my son this christmas and already its becoming a firm favourite as well as a source of extreme annoyance.
~What is it~
Basically its a battery operated toy that instructs you to either
Bop it Flick it Spin it Twist it Pull it
You have to twist, pull etc the correct extremity in time or else you're out.
~Modes~
Beat Bop - Here you have to pull, twist or whichever depending upon the corresponding sound. Unfortunately I havent found a way to find out which sound is which yet, so I'm basically out after the first instruction.
Vox Bop - The easier mode, here you are told what to doing in words rather than sounds. The only problem here was at first it was hard to understand what the voice was actually saying. Flick It in particular sounds a lot like swig it. But after a few games you get used to the voice, and even though it sounds like swig it, you know which one it means.
You can play solo, which as it sounds means you play purely for your own entertainment.
You can play One on One, were you play against some one, and take either the yellow side, or the green side. The Bop It tells you which person turn it is. And the first to miss loses.
Or you can play in a team, after a certain amount of instructions the Bop It tells you to pass it on. If you miss or make a mistake you are out.
~Good Points~
Its highly addictive, I wasn't sure whether to put that as a good point of bad, but overall I think its a good thing, there are plenty of worse thing to get addicted to. I guess after a while it might help to improve concentration and reflexes, and possibly co-ordination. The Bop It seems to be fairly robust and well made, and wasn't expensive.
~Bad Points~
Its loud! There are 3 different sound settings and a headphone jack, but for some reason in this house it has to be on the loudest setting and headphones are never used.
Its a bit too Americanised for my liking, and I hate being called dude. The voice if often difficult to understand at first.
~My thoughts~
I really like it despite the volume and the voice. After a few drinks on Christmas day we were in hysterics trying to score more than 9. Seemingly the top score is 250, so we are way off at the moment, my son has managed 19 so far. I know some toys can be a bit iffy about using rechargeable batteries, but I put rechargeables in and have had no problems whatsoever.
Ok we havent got very far so far, but I can imagine it being a very irritating game sometimes. Especially if you get close to the high score and then mess it up at the last minute, I can understand why the advert shows it being thrown out of the window.
Because of the multi player option, both of my children have been able to play it together, and {touchwood} so far have managed to play it together without world war 3 breaking out.
I would recommend it to anyone, its easy enough for young children to play, but still 'cool' enough for teenagers to use too. And of course its a great party game for adults. ~The Price~
I paid just over £20 for it at the beginning of December, but you can now buy it from Argos for £16.59.
You also need 3 AA batteries which aren't included.

Advantages: Addictive fun, simple to learn but difficult to master Disadvantages: Occasionally non-responsive 'Bop It!' button, voice giving commands can get annoying after a while
