The Borders.co.uk page is certainly aesthetically pleasing, however it is merely a pretty facade masking utterly appalling customer service. As several reviews suggest, the checkout process... more

    Advantages Advantages See op.

Disadvantages Disadvantages None really, although prices are probably beaten by online booksellers.

Although Borders is a bookshop, it is unlike any other I have been to in the UK (it is based on an American concept so I have been to a couple of similar shops in the States.) Presumably since online book sellers such as Amazon and BOL.com have really taken off, bookshops have realised that in order to succeed they need to do something a little different, and Borders has certainly done that. I used to work for WHSmiths, and customers were often complaining to the staff about other customers reading the books or magazines. As a staff member this actually used to irritate me as well, although ... more

I got a fantastic response to my first review, and I’d like to thank everyone who read it for their kind comments and ratings! But I’ve had a bit of difficulty deciding where to go from there. There’s no doubt that I could talk the hind legs off a donkey about more beauty products and shampoo, but this time I wanted to write about something completely different. I thought about reviewing a CD, film or a book, but I couldn’t think of a particular one that I’ve recently thought especially outstanding. So this afternoon, I headed over to ‘Borders’ with the intention of choosing a book to read and ... more

Advantages Advantages Books...and lots of them. A maze of magazines.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Well...I suppose they could just give away books!

I read about this bookstore on Ciao a few months ago and immediately felt envious. It seemed like the perfect environment in which to browse and spend lots of money on some of my favourite things. Imagine how excited I was when I saw that Borders was coming to my hometown, Edinburgh, in April. Fort Kinnaird is a retail park on the outskirts of the city (on the east side) on the way out to Musselburgh. Previously, it has been home to a multiplex cinema, a few electrical stores, and not a whole lot else. Recently, it has expanded to include nearby ground and The Fort shopping precinct, hence the ... more

Advantages Advantages Huge selection of books, nice layout, friendly staff, seating available, cafe upstairs.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Items are sold at RRP and no attempt is made to compete with online retailers.

This review is based around the BORDERS store at Teesside Retail Park. Although based on my rare visits to other branches I have notices that most factors are consistent. -Shop- Teesside Retail Park's branch, like many of the other BORDERS stores, plays host to a coffee shop; in this case, Starbucks. The cafe is positioned on the second floor directly above the entrance. This is so you can be lured in and enjoy the delightful aroma of freshly brewed coffee from the instant you walk through the door. If, however, you don't like the smell of coffee, I would recommend avoiding this store like the ... more

Advantages Advantages Borders will shake up the UK bookstore scene with its long opening hours and interesting events.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Far too tempting.

Borders is a innovative US bookstore company with attitude which has recently opened several stores in the UK and looks likely to challenge the UK bookshop scene in a big way. Firstly, it is so accessible –opening from 8am until 11pm daily except Sunday when it is open from 11am until 5pm. Secondly, it manages to combine a stimulating environment with a very relaxed atmosphere. And thirdly it has loads of interesting events and activities to draw you back time and time again. Borders currently has 9 stores in the UK located at Brighton, Bournemouth, Cheshire, Leeds, 2 in London, Oxford ... more
