everything, not just cars, in this collection of his columns from both Top Gear Magazine and The Sunday Times.Whether you love or loathe him, Born to be Riled makes for an entertaining and lively read as Clarkson vents his anger and frustration at, among other things, Sunday drivers, caravans and politicians. Even places are not safe from his poisonous tongue, with Surrey, Birmingham and Norfolk being on the receiving end of some particularly venomous rants. Clarkson's views on cars and motoring make for interesting reading but do tend to speak to the more initiated enthusiast than the casual driver and analogies and comparisons are often lost on all but the most technically minded car fanatic. However, Clarkson writes with joyous wit and even when his arguments seem a little shaky, you can't help but find yourself nodding in agreement or realising that he is riled by all the things in life that you are--being stuck behind a caravan on a country back road or the drink-driving laws in this country. In much the same way as Bill Bryson chronicles life's daily woes and pitfalls with a scathing sense of humour, so Clarkson speaks for a silent majority who are secretly incensed by a million and one things everyday of their lives, but are just a little too British to say anything. In this book, Clarkson has become the common man's champion and when he is fighting for the cause with this much humour and wit, long may he remain in that position. --Jonathan Weir

Advantages: Very funny, huge variety of subject matter, lots of book for your money, informative, passionate Disadvantages: Doesn't suit being read in one go, topics recycled and stale towards end
Born To Be Riled is good. It's probably not Jeremy Clarkson's best book, but it certainly makes for great reading, either as a bedtime book, where the short columns are ideal for a quick spell, on the commute or on holiday. Born To Be Riled is humorous and interesting to read, and is very easy to pick up and get into, perhaps making it best read in short spells, allowing more attention to each individual column.
Born To Be Riled certainly has the wit and charm of Clarkson's other books, and the only thing that really lets it down is perhaps it is so long, that by the end, you've read about everything two or three times. However, it is ... more

The best, and in some cases worst, thing about Born To Be Riled is the fantastic scope of subject matter. Clarkson writes about anything and everything. This does help keep what I'm failry sure is his longest book, fresh and new, keeping you interested. At time though, pretty much everyone will come across a column on something they aren't really interested in, and while the variety is enormous, eventually they begin to repeat. It isn't a killer flaw, and there's definitely enough content for the price, but it does get a little stale towards the end. The constant chopping and changing of subject could also get on some people's nerves, as the short columns are often over, along with their topic, as soon as they begin, before the book moves quickly onto something else. The writing is excellent. Clarkson is funny and knowledgeable, and has a great passion for everything he writes about, which really draws you in and connects you to the book. However, it is definitely still worth picking up, particuarly to read in bed or on the train, and if you like Jeremy Clarkson, you're going to like this.
Advantages: A hilarious read. A large variety of subject matter, brilliantly used for humourous effect. Disadvantages: Best read in short burts. Dry humour may wear thin after prolonged reads.
...do things differently. Born To Be Riled is, in my humble opinion, best read three or four chapters at a time when you have a spare fifteen minutes. Possibly between snoozes on a flight to your favourite holiday destination or on your lunch break at work when you could use some cheering up. In my opinion Born to Be Riled is a fantastic break from all the generic comedy books, getting straight to the point. Clarkson is fearless about insulting anyone ...

Quick review of Born to Be Riled - Jeremy Clarkson
This book by Jeremy Clarkson is very funny and if you enjoy watching the TVseries 'Top Gear' then this is a definates buy. This collection of column articles doesn't just focus on cars either is also makes humour of life and Jeremy Clarksons experiences.
The only slight critism is that some chapters are similar so the book can get a bit repetitive once you have read a lot of the chapters / columns. ...
