The Bosch AHS 41 ACCU is lightweight battery powered cordless hedge trimmer that makes easy work of trimming hedges and bushes. It is primarily aimed at cutting through small to medium sized branches (not really above 1.5cm in diameter).

The battery will need an initial charge of around 5-6 hours before you can first use it and then subsequent charges of around 3 hours. It claims to give upto 55 minutes of trimming time, but I found that it really gave around 45 minutes before the battery started to weaken and it became less effective.

Even so I was quite impressed with its cutting power and having considered a petrol powered one and one with an electric cable, I was pleased with its performance and the fact it is lightweight enough to use for the 45-55 mins (2.5kg).

I have a large garden and so cutting back is quite an extensive activity and this did the job well, cutting back a range of bushes and hedges. Having a larger garden means not having to mess around with an electric cable was quite important with it being easy to move around a bush without having to worry about the cable.

The blade is also long enough (41 cm) and sharp enough (though I did notice some blunting after a few days of use) I think for the majority of gardens, unless you have some really thick branches and then to be honest using a manual branch lopper will be effective rather than buying a larger more powerful trimmer.

It has good safety features in that you need two hands to operate it, so if one hand does fall away it will cut out. It is also fairly quiet and vibration free. It is sturdy and durable as well.

In my opinion it is a good purchase for most gardens and makes an arduous task as easy as it can be - I would say even quite relaxing !! But don't pay more than £55 for it.
