...I have a hawthorn hedge alongside my garden about 20 metres long. I also have a few other plants in the garden that need trimming like cotoneaster, hypericum and pyracantha. For about 20 years a reliable Black & Decker kept things in check. Then the handle failed and I did a bodged repair that would have had any H&S guy frothing. By this season it was time to say goodbye and get another trimmer.
My experience told me to choose as light a trimmer as appropriate. That - and price - were the main factors when I checked out products on Ciao.
I selected the BoschAHS 42-16 as it seemed to meet my requirements. Amazon had the lowest price and free delivery was within 2 days.
The product was well packed and completely assembled. I was ready to be critical after bidding farewell to the tried and tested B&D but the Bosch product...

Advantages: Ease of use, Decent reach Disadvantages: Chain can snap, Limitation of 8cm diameter branches
...The Bosch ASG-52 is a fine example of a power tool - just the sort of thing you'd hope to find in any self-respecting gadjet-freak's garage!
So what exactly will the ASG-52 do for you ? Well, it could probably take off a finger or two if you're not careful with it. This really is a chainsaw on a stick.
The stick is a sturdy plastic, two section, extendable pole that extends to around 2m (7-8ft). The chainsaw is an electrically powered mini-chainsaw - the chain being somewhat like linked sections of barbed wire. The saw will go through tree branches with ease - I've managed up to around 8cm (3") diameter branches.
This tool is so much easier than using a manual/'pull the rope' lopper and speeds up the task of pruning a tree dramatically.
On the downside - it's possible to trap the chain in a branch if you try taking on something took...

...The Bosch PMS 400-multi- purpose saw is clearly one of the most versatile power tools ever produced. With it’s fast SDS tool- changing system, the PMS 400 universal saw can be rapidly changed from a handy saw, to a sander, a wire brush, a file, a rasp or even a polisher in seconds. It is lightweight, and has a single handed operation for ease of use, yet powerful enough to be used for a multitude of job’s around the house. For example cutting tree branches, smoothing wood, removing rust and deburring metal, the Bosch multi-saw nevertheless remains a specialist-sawing tool. In this mode it is equally suitable for rough sawing and precise carpentry is possible, thanks to two foot plates which are standard, one for accurate 90 degree cutting and the other for 45 mitres, for example picture framing. Also standard is a wire brush attachment...
