After 25 years of service, our old Hoover Washer/Dryer finally give up on us and true to washing machine tradition, it couldn’t have packed up at a worse time, a week after we moved house and needed it most.
Hoover had not long gone into liquidation and after just having a bad experience with our new Hoover vacuum cleaner (see my other review), we did not want to risk laying out several hundred pounds on another Hoover make. So we had a bit of a tough decision to make. Do we go for another washer-dryer or just a washer on it's own that had fewer moving parts to go wrong. Our new home, has a conservatory that is south facing, so it becomes really warm with the slightest amount of sun. So I reckoned we had the ideal place of drying clothes in the winter when it is too cold and damp to put them outside.
Now it was down to the make. As I had owned several Bosch tools and found them incredibly reliable and of good quality, I suggested we go this time for a Bosch and having owned this machine now for around 6 months, it was certainly no mistake. We purchased the Bosch ClassiXX6 1200. We got our machine from Comet, who delivered it the following day and took away our old Hoover at no extra cost.
Quiet and Powerful
I was amazed at the quietness of the machine as it went through its cycle (Noise level washing (dB): 59, noise level spinning (dB): 79). With our old Hoover machine, I had often had to increase the volume of the TV when the thing went into its spin cycle. Enough said! But this Bosch brought a smile to my face as my wife said to me, “it’s spinning, can you hear it?” I could barely discern a faint noise as I listened carefully. I couldn’t resist but go into the kitchen to take a look. The machine was on its full 1200 speed and there was just a slight visible vibration. On full spin, our old Hoover had often ‘danced’ its way from under the worktops and had finished up in the middle of the kitchen floor stopped only by it’s filling hoses!
Efficiency
The number of wash cycles and temperature settings on our Bosch, makes the machine very environmentally friendly and kinder on the pocket, meaning that savings can be made on the electricity bill. The machine has been rated category A overall, making it extremely competitive over other washing machines.
Using the Machine
Well even I could do this! As I look at the dials on the front, they really make things so easy to operate.
On the panel at the top, you have the big round main control knob with “Off” at the top. Then turning it clockwise you have Cottons at 30°, 40°, 60° – Stains at 60° and 90°. Then 30° for a mixed load and super quick wash function, ideal for when you discover a garment you need in a hurry has a stain on that you hadn’t noticed before. Then at the bottom (6 o’clock position) you have spin – there are 4 spin speeds you can select by another push-button on the left of the control panel, 1200, 1000, 800, or 600.
Going anti-clockwise from the top on the dial, you have Easy-care at 30°, 40°, 60° Delicate at 30°, then your cold wash and woollies at 30° and the next stage you can drain the machine.
At the side of the dial is a series of lights that light up to indicate exactly what the machine is doing. When the machine finishes it cycle a soft buzzer sounds let you know. It will keep sounding every few seconds until you turn it off.
To start simply turn the knob to any of the above positions to begin and select any other settings using the other push-buttons on the left of the control panel. All the push-buttons operate by a very light touch.
The machine has a 6 kg capacity which for us is more than ample, and then there are additional functions, wash-plus, pre-wash, reduced ironing and aqua plus that we have yet to try out.

The Buying Experience
We purchased our washing machine from Comet for £399.99 which included delivery. They offered the usual optimal extended warranty upgrade to 3 years which was £79.99, but that is something we never take out being satisfied with the manufacturer’s 2 years warranty and then if something goes wrong after the guarantee period, I would simply get out my trusty Haines Washing Machine Repair Manual, as I have always done.
Advantages: Reasonable price, holds a good size load of laundry Disadvantages: It does not have any special features
...my opionion sometimes the fancier the product the more problems you can have with it. The Bosch WAE may just be your run of the mill everyday normal washing machine but thats all we were looking for, so if that is all you are looking for I strongly recommend it. ...
