...option of several types of Bose speakers that are compatible with the Lifestyle 35. Having listened to several, I found that the
Jewel, although more expensive had a far superior clarity and definition than the others. The tiny ‘Jewel Cube’ are a split pair speaker (2 rear and 3 front) so from one position you can have two directional sound emissions.
As I stated earlier the Acoustimass bass unit has a great balance of sound. ... ...it does not overpower you in the room.
I have played Classical music in this, and found the clarity and depth of sound to be so good, as to almost be there in person.
I have also had music CD’s playing at a good volume, and it really does feel as though I am in a Night Club or music Bar – fantastic.
Watching movies is fantastic. You really do feel as though you are in the cinema.
This is one of the best surround sound system I have heard. It runs off the 5.1 Digital Surround Sound system and DTS – Digital Theatre Sound. The same as in the cinema.
The digital surround sound is crystal clear, with a fantastic ‘warm’ base that is not overpowering or ‘thumping’, even though the system has a power output of 280 watts.
It also has a DVD and FM/AM Radio.
I bought the system and installed it with very little fuss. When I turned it on, the system asked for the set-up disk. Loaded this and was instructed to place the headphone receiver on my head and sit in 5 locations in the viewing area of the TV. The system then emitted test noises at various pitches and resonances – scared the cat! Once this process was completed the system was automatically calibrated and balance. Fantastic, no need to change the volume of the speakers, fade etc.
I then played the last song on the Eagles album ‘Hell Freezes Over’. This song was written and performed for this 5.1 DTS system. Each voice can be heard uniquely in each of the 5 speakers. There is no bleeding (i.e. background noise, or noise from another speaker channel). Superb!!
Also you have the option of adding ‘zones’ onto the system, so you could have speakers outside, controlled by the one remote, and the signal is relayed back to the Lifestyle system.
The remote control is a little big, but easy to use. You can change the system to run off 2, 3 or 5 speakers. All the usual controls.

Quick review of Bose Lifestyle 35
I'm not a great audiofile and the sound is fine by me - but we have a major problem with the base station which will not transmit more than 30 feet.
The remotes are fine but every time we try to access the media library from more than 30 feet we get the message "unable to connect to media centre"
Our suppliers tell us that Bose are aware of the problem and either don't care or can't fix the problem.
If you don't have far to transmit this pricey system is ok - if you do then don't buy it!! ...

Advantages: None to speak of. Disadvantages: Truely terrible player.
...I would describe as 'charateristic Bose sound'. This bears no relation to Hi-Fi whatsoever. It can best be explained as having a bloated, flatulent bass which overpowers a weak, muffled midrange all topped off with a strident, fatigueing top end.
The physical design of the system speakers goes against everything that quality manufacturers know to be essential to get speakers to sound natural or even anywhere near 'right'. And any system, this small, ... ...a tenth the price.
Bose charges serious money for these systems. The player is buggy and near impossible to use without the manual. Its supposed to be great as a party music system. A friend has one and at parties, even he cannot get it to play the music he wants it to. Nobody else can ever get it to do anything - apart from change volume or stop. Both useful, but not altogether what you want for a great party atmosphere. Pity he didn't know me ...

...the reviews about don't touch BOSE its rubbish , get better for less. I drive a Porsche, its noisy, not very comfortable, eats the petrol and I could have bought a car that does everything better for a fraction of the cost, but boy do I love it. The same applies to my Bose. It looks neat , it never fails to impress visitors that say the sound is so natural, i never have it turned up high so would not know if the sound deteriates or care, it does ... ...pricey, but hey everyone in the family can use it , including the four year old. So if you can afford it but it. You will not be dissapointed, if you are a Hi Fi guru you wouldn't be considering it anyway so please don't even bother to review it. ...
