I tend to do alot of flying (more than most people my age) and I find these headphones are very useful, and not just when flying. That said the price in the UK is just too high, QC2 are cheaper option but still alot and no rechargeable battery, luckily I managed to picked mine up in the USA direct from Bose and saved about £100 doing so. If you have the money for them I recommend getting some, but at the price they are clearly a luxury.
The Headphones.
With just the headphones on (no music playing) they do cut out alot of background noise, but not all as some of the advertising would make you believe, and if you are doing this you can remove wire from them so you don't have that dangling about. They sit comfortably on top of the ears, the earphones allow a large degree of rotation and with the cushioned top of the strap, make them very comfortable.
When flying the do cut out alot of the background noise, this combined with an MP3 player or the in flight entertainment will cut out virtually all noise (including flight attendants, so if you want your meal you better be on the lookout for one). I find they are also good for when I am studying, cutting out all but the loudest sounds that a university's residential hall can make. I also use them when walking about on the street , but when doing this you must pay much closer attention to what you can see and what little noises that make it past the sound filtering, especially when crossing the road.
One of the downsides is that no sound comes out of the headphones with the power is not switched on, so if the rechargeable battery runs out you get no sound out of them, but with a 20 hour life span has not happened yet (and keeping the battery charge when not in use, as Bose recommend, not likely to).
The Accessories.
The headphones came with the following:
An adapter for use with in flight entertainment systems, that lowers the volume (can be used with one or the jack systems.).
1.5m extension cord.
Charger
6.3mm jack adapter, so you can connect to your stereo.
Carry case and strap, a good safe place to store them when not in use (and at the price you pay, you want to keep them safe) as well as keeping the accessories together.
