Before I got my iPod and sounddock, I was one of those who refuses to subscribe to the technological revolution. Prefering hi-fi and compact disc to the digital music phenomenon. However, within a week (once I'd worked out how to use it), I was hooked on my iPod and once I got the sound-dock, there was no turning back. I think it's fairly safe to say that the era of compact disc players and tape decks is over... The only reason I still have a normal cd player in my house is to listen to the radio, and those few albums that I just haven't got around to putting on my iPod yet.
The Bose sound-dock is a piece of mastery in the area of audio technology. Beautiful, sleek and streamlined; it's large frontal speaker provides both volume and sound quality. The music I play on the sound-dock sounds almost incomparably better than CDs played on a CD player.
It is almost unbeleivably easy to use. From opening the box to playing my favourite tracks took a grand total of about 30 seconds. It's as simple as; put the correct size of iPod point in the dock, plug in the power cable, put the iPod in the dock and away you go. And, it would probably (for the sake of emphasis) be good for me to point out here, that to all intents and purposes, I am completely technologically inept (I can't even change a plug!!). Anyhow, if someone like me can plug and play this magnificent device, anyone can!!!
There are three drawbacks with the sound-dock. Neither of them are particularly alarming. The first is that, whenever you turn it off at the plug, when turned back on, it automatically goes to full volume. On a few occasions, this has left me frantically stabbing at the control buttons in the dark of a late night, trying to not wake my flatmates. However, as far as glitches go, it's relatively unconcerning. The second thing is the remote control. It's absolutely tiny; sleek and stylish. I realise for most people, this would be a very good thing. In our image concious society, everything seems to be getting smaller; mobile phones, remote controls, digital music players. My issue with small things is quite simple; I lose them! At present I have somehow misplaced the remote control for my sound-dock (for about the 7th time since I got it). However, it's been weeks and I think it's gone for good this time!! While I realise this was my own fault, my one gripe with BOSE is that you can't buy these remotes on their own. So, for the foreseeable future, I'm reduced to getting up off my couch when I want to skip a track or alter the volume!! (oh the horror!!) The third issue (and probably the most annoying for me), is that it can't run off battery power. While carrying it long distances for short periods of music listening is pretty unfeasable due to it's size and weight; it would be quite nice if I could take my sound system out into the back garden when we're having barbecues. Yet again, this is a minor problem; not really a huge concern and I certainly wouldn't let any of the above issues put anyone off buying one of these!!!
Anyway, all in all, this is a fantastic piece of equipment. A must-have if you've got an iPod. They look good, they're relatively small and unobtrusive (as sound systems go), the sound quality is amazing. In fact, they're actually almost sexy!! They retail for about £250 and are well worth the money!! Highly, highly recommended.

Good review. Portable ones are now available at a similar price to the original. Rebecca

I can't get over the price of these - especially when you consider that you can pick up similar devices from "lesser" brands at around £50. I also wonder just how good a poorly encoded MP3 can sound, regardless of the quality of speakers it's played through. The full volume after a rest seems like a bit of an oversight. I remain unconvinced but still a good review. Sam.
