I bought my Proseries 5.5 components for my Rover 414i purely on the recommendation of my favourite ICE dealer. He was raving over them, how well they were made, how weighty the magnet was, how good the aftersales was, and given that I like my sounds in my car, ... ...Now they are classed as expensive, even by audio magazines, but I have been brought up to believe you get what you pay for, and with Bostons what you pay for is supreme sounds and power. These things go loud, and they don't even understand distortion. Coupled to my Pioneer KEH-P8800R Head Unit (reviewed elswhere on Ciao!), with it's MOSFET 4×45w amplification, these speakers give an awesome performance. I bought my Proseries 5.5 components for my Rover 414i purely on the recommendation of my favourite ICE dealer. He was raving over them, how well they were made, how weighty the magnet was, how good the aftersales was, and given that I like my sounds in my car, I was more than willing to give them a try. Now they are classed as expensive, even by audio magazines, but I have been brought up to believe you get what you pay for, and with Bostons what you pay for is supreme sounds and power. These things go loud, and they don't even understand distortion. Coupled to my Pioneer KEH-P8800R Head Unit (reviewed elswhere on Ciao!), with it's MOSFET 4×45w amplification, these speakers give an awesome performance. The sound is clear, the bass thumps, the vocals stand out, and I have yet to give them a music genre where they don't outperform anything I have ever used before. Whether it's Sinatra or Sash! these speakers give it their all.
The tweeters are multi directional units, and come with a variety of fittings so you can put them in your door cards, your dash, wherever you feel like. Mine are fitted in my door cards, where the winders would be on a car without electric windows, and do a supreme job of lifting the sound up into the car. And what's more, they are perfectly suited to the 5.5" speakers in the door pods.
The crossovers look brilliant and would make a great feature if ICE installs for show are your thing. Mine are hidden away, but they don't mind, and still do a sterling job.
Overall, these speakers are a miracle of modern engineering, and at a price less than the top of the range audiophile stuff from people like Alpine. Okay, £300 is a lot of money for what are essentially a cone, a surround and a magnet, but with these you'd be amazed at just what a cone, a surround and a magnet can do!
No face off feature, Radio code can only be entered using remote, battery life on remote is rubbish and some features can only be accessed using this (*)
